Hello to all. Newbie here. I have struggled with "something" for a long time, but it seems as though my symptoms are getting more severe and, quite honestly, they scare me.
I have "spells" where I will break out into a sweat, feel "foggy" headed/lightheaded, weak and my entire body shakes. I find myself feeling irritable as well. I never feel "well". Even when I'm not having one of my "spells", I always feel anxious/nervous and shaky and nauseated.
I have had several tests ran over the past year including CT scan of head, Exercise Stress Test, Ultrasound of abdomen, stool culture, uppers gi endoscopy, colonoscopy and blood work. Other than having Barrets Esophagus, nothing of great concern shows.
My GP feels I am suffering from severe anxiety and I've been on Citalopram 20mg for nearly a year, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
My question is this: Do the symptoms that I described to start this post sound like anxiety or something else?

AllianceMike, your symptoms certainly sound like a classic anxiety attack which is leaving you with free floating anxiety the rest of the time. I too feel you have severe anxiety disorder. The fact that 20mg of Citalopram hasn't worked in a year's time means you should have a discussion with your doctor. Time for a re-evaluation of your medication. It could be as simple as a dose adjustment or putting you on another of the many drugs out there.
I also would like to point out Mike, that medication alone is not going to do the trick. With meds you sometimes need talking therapy to get down to the root of your anxiety. Also working on other methods of calming your mind and body are important as well. I hope coming on this forum will allow you to learn different ways to control and eventually rid yourself of anxiety. Take care
Thank you very much for the reply. I have started counseling (have had 3 sessions so far). I'm not doubting that it is severe anxiety, but it is so very discouraging to feel ill 24/7 and come to grips with the fact that there is nothing physically wrong when there are so many physical symptoms. Does that make sense?
AllianceMike, I'm glad you started counseling, it will help immensely. As for the multiple physical symptoms, unfortunately that's how anxiety hooks us and draws us into thinking something must be terribly wrong. It jumps from symptom to symptom until we start to believe the doctor must be missing something. As soon as that doubt enters our mind, the fear starts to build which just keeps the anxiety alive.
Agora1, Thank you for your replies. I appreciate them very much. It can be overwhelming at times and very discouraging. I hate feeling ill, sore, in pain, etc. every day
