We all know that taking a few deep breaths can help us to relax. It works, in part, because the out-breath activates the vagus nerve, which slows the heart and puts the body into 'rest, relax, and regenerate mode'.
You can sometimes relax even faster by actually getting up and walking around the room very slowly while you take your breaths. The reason is that the slow walking tells your brain that you're feeling relaxed and the brain then tilts the body's nervous system and biochemistry in the direction of being relaxed.
