Anxious About Accidents and Death

I am 19 and I get anxious almost every day about someone I love dying, especially in an accident. It is taking a huge toll on my mental and emotional health. For example, right now I am terrified because my boyfriend is on a plane. I just can't stop myself. I always picture my loved ones in accidents, I always imagine everyone I love dying. It is like I am preparing myself in case that actually does happen. I get very anxious and sometimes depressed. It makes me sick and want to cry. Any advice?

Hi enc1. Hi was exactly like you when i was younger. For whatever reason I was terrified that I would lose the ones I loved. Years on and this hasnt happened apart from old age. Mindfulness is very helpful in enabling us to live in the now rather than catastrophising(always thinking the worst). Bad things do happen but often we fear them because we doubt our ability to cope if they do. I now know that even though id rather bad things didnt happen I will cope. The quote from winnie the pooh springs to mind.....If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you.

Thank you for that... I found that quote very comforting, I loved Winnie the Pooh as a kid. You are right, I think it is also the coping process that I fear. I did not see it that way before.

Anxiety/fear often blinds us. Try reflecting when in a calm state. Use relaxation techniques such as mindfulness/meditation or self hypnosis x

That is me, although it is lessening due to my self help.

We are in charge of our own mind and body, anxiety can be totally debilitating. Try not to over think, that is the key. Life is full of disasters and disappointment, negativity, but I doesn't mean it will happen to us. If it does we are strong and will always find a way through. When I lost love ones I started to suffer with health anxiety, thinking I will be ill too, I have had tests done and im ok, please dont let it rule your life if you can.

Good luck xx
