I am and have been dealing with my oldest son who has been dealing with acute anxiety and addiction. He is a wonderful young man; handsome gifted and very sensitive. He recently left an abusive relationship with an ex girlfriend who was the one who taunted and beat him. It took everything not to strike back. It's taken a toll on the family as to why he continued to stay until recently. On top of that he lives on the other side of the country and I've flown out at the last minute 3 times over the last couple of months. My life has become consumed by my sons health safety and well being. I saw this group online and wondered if there are other mothers going through something similar.

Adult son who suffers from anxiety and addiction
Hi, not a mother but I'm going through something similar. I had a bad motorbike crash which has caused PTSD Anxiety. Id recommend your son see a therapist, someone who specialises in that sort of field. It will allow him to release everything inside and it is a great relief. The therapist may be able to advise some therapy for him as well such as CBT. Best of luck.
Hi heidimax, I agree with TheInjuredBiker saying that your son needs to be in therapy. In order for him to deal with the abusive relationship he was in, he needs a professional to address his addiction and anxiety issues. I can totally understand how your life is being consumed by your son's struggles. You need to take care of yourself as well. There is only so much we can do for others before it takes it's toll on us. The old analogy applies here. If you were on a plane and the oxygen masks came down, would you put it on your baby first or yourself? If you don't save yourself first, you won't be able to save anyone else either.
I'm glad you found this forum. I hope you continue to use it for support and understanding. We have a wonderful group of people who truly care about each other. Welcome to the AnxietyForum
