Hi Princessjessica, the throat is a common place for us to feel our emotions. The saying, "I got all choked up" conveys how our feelings seem to get stuck in our throat. It is not dangerous and will not close your throat. It's more of a sensation of tightening muscles. Sometimes dryness of your mouth and throat can cause that feeling as well. Sip on some warm water or a cup of tea will allow those muscles to relax.
I use to have that symptom a lot when I was younger. I was convinced there was a problem with my throat - but actually there was nothing wrong except for perhaps the occasional cold and swollen tonsils. Back then, I would carry around some water to drink. These days it is pretty common for people to carry around a water bottle- so that would be easy to do in most situations. In my case it was just a symptom of anxiety and not a greater medical condition. So for me, knowing that although it was uncomfortable it was not a serious condition and wasn't going to physically hurt me - then the fear subsided.
Hello Jessica c yes I suffer with this as well x feels like you are going to choke x but it is the anxiety and the more you stress the worse it feels x I've had it for a year now x not nice tat all x but if you try to relax it will ease off x not easy though x
Hi there princessjessica. I get throat pain and a choking sensation, sometimes together, sometimes apart. A lot of stress and tightness can be help in the throat, jaw, neck and shoulders. It's unfortunate that these can all mimic worse things but it's not often the case that it is anything worse. Try to take comfort in the fact that if you have had things checked out and it is all ok then it is more than likely stress and anxiety. I know it is easier said than done. Health anxiety is the pits.
