EMDR after effects....

Hi all

At my last session with my therapist she tried EMDR, it was upsetting and I left an emotional wreck. Since then I've been really down, had flash backs and the nightmares are horrendous :( It's been my worst week in a long time and my anxiety levels are so high. Please tell me its worth it in the end? I just want to get that image out of my head and be able to get a decent nights sleep :( It's made me not want to continue with CBT, I know I'm going to have to really push my self to go to my next session.

If anyone has had EMDR before can you possibly tell me how long I can expect to feel like this? Thanks in advance x

Hi it sounds like you're having a bad time, and I really hope things start looking up for you and you have some joy in your life and better times ahead. I can't answer your question about EDMR, but, picked up on your wanting to get that image out of your head and get some decent sleep. I tried a technique, it worked for me, and I hope will help you.

Get the image in your mind, wrap it all in a metal sphere, strong, metal sphere, and in your minds eye, throw it, as hard as you can, out of your world, out of your life, out of the universe into a black hole, where it never comes back.

You deserve to be feeling happy, and at peace and hope this helps a little

Thank you so much for your reply and thank you for that technique it worked really well until I had to go through it all again with another session of EMDR. I'm hoping it will work again for me x

Very welcome, I hope it works again for you to and this time imagine you're throwing the sphere out at light speed, so fast it speeds out the whole universe and into a black hole, where it will be impossible for it to return.

I wish you peace and joy in your life and hope that you can find your inner strength which will bring out the best you that you can be.

You are stronger than your nightmares and stronger than your flashbacks, please start to believe in your inner strength and everyday keep moving forward step-by-step, you doing just fine, you will win I'm absolutely certain, take care and good luck

I had EMDR 4 sessions aND it was awesome for panic attacks but still had some anxiety. So I tried Sudarshan KRIYA and it fixed me in 1 3 day course. I didn't take the class for anxiety. it's called a Happiness Program. please research it. my husband is going to try it now. it like cleaned my brain of everything negative. I still can't believe it.

Thank you for replying. I was had another appointment with my therapist Monday and we did more EMDR and I honestly don't feel like it's working if anything it's making me worse. It's only one memory we are working on and afterwards I'm having flashbacks and nightmares. I know it can take some time to work but I don't think I can actually go through with it any more. I'm obviously going to mention it to my therapist at my next appointment and I will research what you have recommended and hopefully it can work for me too, getting kind of desperate at this point x
