OCD is robbing my daughter of her teenage years. Just 5 months ago we noticed something was changing with her. She became withdrawn and anxious along with feelings that she had something really wrong with her. Her OCD has many sides to it. She fears outside, she fears germs, she fears health issues, she fears religion, she has fears of certain numbers and , she has social anxiety all at the age of 13. I think this is something she was born with? She can go back and remember so much and all these fears she kept to herself probably because she didn't understand what was going on. But really came full force over Christmas with panic and anxiety. She is now in therapy doing CBT and ERP 2 times a week for the last 2 months. I do see some changes as she is s little better able to calm herself more quickly. It would sometimes takes hours especially at night to get her to be able to calm down. We are going to a 5 day intensive program to see if that will help too. As a parent I feel totally helpless and it feels awful to not really know what to do.

Hello
I am so sorry what you are having to experience as a Mother watching your Daughter go through this as well as my heart goes out to your Daughter to
I am a middle aged women who had ocd as young as your Daughter is now and there was no one to go to then unlike now and I could not speak to my parents either so when I read your post and all the help you are getting your Daughter and all the support and love she has from you I thought she is a lucky girl to have a Mum like you
I am not sure how it starts maybe different for us all , I was insecure I think that is how mine started
Be assured that been there for her , been patient and plenty of love which I sense she has in abundance from you all ready is all you can do with the help you have in place to
If you feel like you just want to get things of your chest or any advice we may be able to give and we are good at listening you are more than welcome and we will do our best to try and help even if it is that we can only listen and let you know you are not alone and others do understand
Have faith that she will overcome this because I am sure she will , it can take time and a lot of patience but she will get there
Take Care x
Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words 😊.. I am sorry you too went through this as a teen but glad to read that things are better for you! I am happy they have these therapies, I can see some of it helping my daughter and will continue on that path for as long as needed. . I am glad for your message, it did brighten my day🙂
My daughter got panic disorder when she was 12 going on 13.
It was very very bad for her!, and she missed a few exams at school, and could not go to school, or she went and then phoned at 10:00 or so and said she is feeling very anxious and stressed.
We googled and saw that it was a very "common" thing, but still very scary experience for us as parents and her.
I had panic attacks when I was 24 and I and my wife tried to help.
We took her to a psychologist, and also a psychiatrist who prescribed 50mg Serdep.
She is still on Serdep and it is going very good, with only small incidents here and there. She also does breathing/relaxation Technics.
She also told her friends about this panic thing and how they can help her if she got an attack.
Her main obstacles was fear of throwing up (vomiting) in class, and that her stomach is upset. She now eats a mint or bubbelgum, because she read somewhere that you cannot vomit if you chew a chewing gum (I do not know if it is true, but it helps her).
