Hi, I'm 17 years old and have recently had the feeling of my heart stopping for 3-4 seconds at night. This sensation comes with dizziness, a feeling of impending doom, and a feeling like I'm falling. I get a surge of adrenaline that feels like it restarts my heart. Although I get the surge of adrenaline followed by extreme nervousness and what feels like I'm dying, my heart does not start beating fast, but feels as if it slowly restarts and stays slow. I was hospitalized and diagnosed with autonomic dysfuntion when I was 14 when my heart started beating extremely fast for no apparent reason, but this feeling is nothing like what I've dealt with before (tachycardia). I was wondering if anyone has felt this way before or has any information on it.
Thanks!

I was also diagnosed with an Autonomic dysfunction/imbalance when I was your age (I am 31 now). About a year ago, I had a number of times where my heart felt like it stopped, along with super fast irregular heart beats. I seriously thought I was having a heart attack. I think Autonomic dysfunction can cause a number of symptoms, but there is no way to say for sure your heart condition is caused by this. Since you mentioned that the current symptoms are quite different from the time you were hospitalized, I would suggest seeing a doctor about this.
I went, and I wore a heart monitor for 24 hours (you can't shower) and wouldn't you know it, nothing happened during those 24 hours =( so the verdict for me is that I am fine, but I need to go see the doctor straight away if it happens again.
It is highly likely genetic for me as my Mum has heart problems.
