I had a routine eye examination this afternoon, & the optician said that my eyes are healthy, but she noticed a change in the back of my eyes since the last check up. She says that it might be down to my age, but she gave me a letter to hand in at my gp`s surgery for a hospital appointment. I`m now panicking, thinking all sorts of things. I asked if it could be macular degeneration, but she said no. Why would an optician want me to get a hospital check up if there`s nothing serious going on?

Hello
I know it is never easy not to worry when we have anxiety because we always think the worse
I must say if they had thought it was anything life threatening they would not have given you a letter to take to your Doctor to make an appointment they would have had you to the hospital straight away themselves so try and take a little reassurance from that thought
They are only been cautious which is good , they have seen a little change and following the procedure by asking you Doctor to refer you to just double check as they suspect this is just something changing with age
I would make an appointment with your Doctor hopefully they can reassure you get that referral so you can have peace of mind
Let us know how you get on

My daughter had an eye test several years back and the opticians was concerned by something he saw at the back of her eye. So he gave her a letter and we had to go straight to the hosp. Fortunately after various tests there was no cause for concern apparently it was pigmentation, but the optician was not taking any chances.
