Panic Attack at Work

I am a teacher and this is my first week back after 2 weeks off. For the last 20 minutes I have been fighting off a panic attack while trying to teach 30 kids in my class period. Still having weird sensations. This is so frustrating!!! I hate it!

Hi Beth, I think I spoke to u over the weekend, but I thought that I was improving but yesterday and today I have been having quite a lot of panic attacks. I phoned my GP and he is going to increase my Citalopram and see if that helps. I hope so. Sorry to hear u had a rough time today too x

Hi Beth,  when you get a chance after work, let us know how the rest of  your day went.  Better I hope.   x

I made it through the work day. I excused myself to run to the restroom ( next to my classroom and I teach high school) splashed some cold water on my face, did a few breathing exercises and actually talked to myself ( it's just a panic attack- you are okay) then very uncomfortably went back and made myself teach! The room was spinning, I felt like I couldn't talk or swallow but I did and now I'm totally exhausted! I feel like it was a small victory in the end. Thanks for checking on me.

Dearest Beth,  that had to be unbelievably difficult to handle, but you did. I can only imagine how exhausted you are.  That was like handling 2 jobs at once.  You did everything right, you did all you could do with the situation. It was a victory for  you.  Give yourself credit where credit is due.  I was watching your posts but didn't want to interrupt your teaching by having your cell phone buzz with a message from me.  Each day will get easier as your anxiety realizes you are not going to give in to the bullying.  Practice the relaxation and deep breathing techniques at home so that you can do it anytime, even at your desk.  My thoughts will be with you tomorrow.  xx

Thank you! This actually made me cry. I'm back at work today giving it all I've got. I woke up anxious/nervous but I came anyway. I have a beautiful life and I have to live.
