Help with a book called Dare
Hello
I have not heard of this book I am sure someone will have but have you tried just putting the title in Google search usually you can get up what you want without knowing the author
Take Care x
The author name is Barry McDonagh and the title is Dare; the new way to end Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks
Seems like it is good. Check Amazon
Just go to Amazon.com and type in "DARE". Don't need the author, it will pop right up.
Hi there, I have only just started using this forum as I usually post on Thyroid UK and Lupus sites.
I had a very severe problem with anxiety starting early October which didn't even begin to dissipate until about 3 weeks ago. In my case it was due to being over replaced on my thyroid meds causing a thyrotoxicosis episode. There was not much to be done but ride out the storm until my pituitary gland and hypothalamus adjusted to the reduced medication in my system. I couldn't sleep and switch off the anxiety and thought I was going to die.
Though I was just about able to be at the birth of my grandson, I was in no fit state to travel down to stay with my daughter and help 12 days later when her husband went back to work after paternity leave; which left my friends and family in no doubt that I was truly ill.
In effect, the anxiety, trembling, insomnia, racing /crashing heart beat, excessive sweating, shaking, intrusive thoughts etc reduced me to a physical and emotional wreck....its very difficult for me to talk about even now as it was totally horrific.
I am a teacher and ended up at the doctors wondering whether they would cart me away... I don't think I would have resisted if they had have done! Eventually my GP gave me 7 days worth of diazepam and 3 weeks of propranolol which helped to calm things down though I still have episodes of a fast heart even at rest which are quite concerning but I had an echocardiogram this week.
I now have real insight and understanding for the very many people who have to live with this condition long term; indeed, I would never put my worst enemy through it.
I too bought the book that has been mentioned and I am sure you would benefit greatly by the common sense, non alarmist approach. It is full of practical, easy to understand advice and explains how the nervous system gets heightened and how to deactivate it over time.
I wish you all the best as you seek to find a resolution for the anxiety you face.
