A little stressed out...

So over the last week I had alot of weird symptoms. I won't get into the details as they are pretty gross, but I looked up my symptoms on Google (yea I know huge mistake) but long story short, I started to feel like I may have colon cancer. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, I'm a bit worried. I made a post a few days ago about this but with less than 24 hours until my appointment and was just feeling a bit down.

Hi Mike,

It's natural for you to feel more anxiety so close to your appointment. Nothing is going to change that. You can try to keep your cool and breathe more slowly, but inside you know you're more anxious than usual. Once you get through the appointment and the Dr. tells you that you're okay, nothing's wrong, you're going to start feeling better. Maybe even let down because you've worked yourself up a little expecting to hear the bad news, but then you'll start to feel better.

Please DON'T go back to Google and search for a new disease or problem!!! You will be tempted! FACE IT! You aren't dying. You are healthy except for some extra anxiety that you allow to attach itself to an illness that you worry about. At first, you have free-floating anxiety. That means you have anxiety floating around and you can become anxious about just about anything in your world. You can feel it trying to attach to almost anything. Next, you Google different illnesses and soon enough you find one you like and off you go---you have a new diagnosis! Now your anxiety is no longer free-floating, it's focussed right on that disease. You think, breathe and live that disease. Meanwhile, you feel some safety doing everyday tasks and chores because they aren't the cause of your discomfort anymore. How nicely you have resolved your free-floating anxiety! This seems to be helped along by some OCD and other anxieties also.

You probably need to see a Dr. to address this anxiety. He or she may advise you to get counseling which will help you greatly should you find a good counselor. You may also need medication. Each person is different and you have to decide what's best for you and maybe give each thing a good try. There are definitely degrees of illness and some people have a much worse case of anxiety than others. Depression often goes hand-in-hand with anxiety. That's another thing your Dr. should be looking for. This can be tricky and difficult. I wish you all the best of health. Take care and come back when you need to talk.

Hi. The other day was the first anniversary of my heart attacks. AS the day approached I was thinking more and more about it, and on the actual day itself i was sure that I was going to have another attack. I did not of course - the point is we are often affected by the misleading thoughts and feelings that spring from our anxiety condition. And that is very likely the same for you now as you approach your appointment.

Anxiety will find any way it can to play with your mind and emotions, and it is extremely unlikely you have colon cancer as you probably know. Try to focus on other things for today. Keep your mind occupied with things that make you feel happy. Your appointment will soon be here.
