Subungual Melanoma?

Im really scared I just noticed this when I woke up this morning. A very thin line vertically across my thumb. It extends to the tip of the nail (where it is beyond the finger) but when I look at the underside there's nothing on the skin just on the nail. Im scared what could this be? In this picture it is on the left-ish part of the nail. Im 19 and Asian.

Please, just go to the dr.... I can't help but believe it WILL all be alright, and can be taken care of...but you need the reassurance of a doctor's diagnosis, opinion, and help. Good luck to you.

Thanks I know I should just that Im 19 and live alone and healthcare is very expensive in my country. Would take me a while to get money for that. Was just wondering if this is what subungual melanomas look like. Thanks tho!

From the picture you took, the situation does not look 'bad' ... and I think this is one time when Googling might help...(that's what I did because I didn't know what subungual melanoma was! :) ) There doesn't seem to be any evidence of blood clotting or darkening of any kind due to blood or other maladies... Maybe, just for the time being, you could keep that area clean with either rubbing alcohol or peroxide... Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Having vertical (longitudinal) ridges on the fingernails refers to the presence of tiny raised lines or ridges that run up and down the length of the nail. Ridges are among the different kinds of nail abnormalities that can develop due to aging, trauma, or underlying medical conditions. Many people notice an increase in vertical ridges of the fingernails as they age, and this can be a normal development. Aging has been described as the predominant cause of vertical ridges on the fingernails. Onychorrhexis is the medical term used to describe longitudinal ridges on the nails that often accompany brittle nails.

You are not ill. These ridges in the nails happen to a lot of people including myself.

I have these on my nails its a fungal problem usually toe nails too. You can catch it off your partner if he has it. A fungicidal cream will cure it ask your pharmacy they will give you cream without seeing doctor, does take a while to treat though not an overnight thing, I have on both toes and finger nails. So does my partner whome passed onto me. Use the cream to treat both you and him if if however you have a partner and he has it too no disrespect. 😁 Mandy dont worry too much.

Ridges on nail CAN be a sign of Vit B12 deficiency.

I had this light grey line on my finger for 2-3 months I just visited a dermatologist and she took a look at my finger plus the two mole that I was suspicious about and she said I don't know why you have this grey line on your finger but I can not see Melanoma cells on it. Som if the line became darker (and continued to your finger) then come back for another check-up. Apparently, last week they had two cases like me! So fingers crossed that it's not Melanoma.

If it were melinoma I I would have expected to see melanin in the tissues but there is no melanin, the classic symptom of any Melanoma, there is a line of blanching.

I don't think I would go getting myself to concerned about this but if you want reasurancce just make an appointment with the GP.

I could just be a reaction to cold or something don't even see any signs of infection.
