A book recommendation for anxiety sufferers...

I have suffered with anxiety for about the past 11-12 years and have probably had about every symptom that you could imagine. I have tried various medications, I’ve had CBT several times and I recently completed a mindfulness course.

All of these things were helpful in their own way, but probably the one thing that has helped me more than anything else, was a book that I read about 4 years ago. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that it literally changed my life, and it was recommended to me by a friend.

It’s called “At Last A Life” and it’s by Paul David.

I still live with anxiety, but now I accept it as being part of what makes me, well me.

My anxiety was gradually growing and consuming my life, whereas now it’s a very small part of it – these days my anxiety is, most of the time non-existent, some of the time a mild inconvenience and only really a problem now during times of real prolonged stress (but isn’t this normal?).

There were many parts of the book which I didn’t find relevant to my life/symptoms but also many which were. I had, what can only be described as a rather clichéd eureka moment while reading it and noticed a difference in myself pretty much straight away.

Anyway, that’s my recommendation – I would love to know if anyone else has read it, or if you do read it then let me know what you think.

Claire Weekes book saved my life 30 years ago and I still kep it just in case I need to refer to it. Her one statement that sticks in my mind is that anxiety is physical symptoms of no medical importance and just let them come and work with them they can't harm you.
