Still figuring it out...

Well my friends hello from Canada... While everything is going (well) with the anxiety. I find myself now dealing with depression. My work situation is getting better everyday I have had some very nice compliments from my fellow work mates. I am very positive at work and keep things light and friendly .But as soon as I come home I go back into feeling alone and separated from the ones I love. I had the idea that I was a loner who just could drop in and out of friendships with no consequences I know now that was, and has been a very big mistake. IO have been trying to compensate for my lowliness by getting out more in the evenings But that social side of things usually includes alcohol and I have to say that I have been drinking more these days. Not advised as I am taking meds for my anxiety. So while I am participating in a social life I have to be careful not to fall back into an old way of coping with life .. Namely booze. I see in one or two posts where this feeling of loneliness is a common thread amongst the members. All the best my friends.... Much Love steve

Hi,

it's very easy (and at the same time, very hard!) to be two different people at work and at home. It sounds like you are doing well at trying to help it by getting out more and by being aware that your drinking could be a problem for you. Hope things go well for you.

HI Steve x Its great to hear the anxiety is well but sorry to hear of the other x Its often said the two can form a bond and its hard to tell at times which is the worse x I'm happy that you are settled into work and it all sounds very positive x Its always nice to be appreciated by fellow workers and can make you feel so much better in yourself x I can understand that coming home to a empty house can make you feel alone and down x Try to go home positive and think of the things in advance that you may do the next day at work x Think of all the fun things you did and how they made you feel x Going out and drinking is not always a must you could easily swap the alcohol for soft drinks and explain that you are on medication and leave it at that x NO one will be thinking any diff of you for it x Yes loneliness is common and at times I feel so lonely even with a hubby and kids at home x I think this is as I am a people person and miss company xx Hope all picks up soon for you xx Donna x

I saw today how the booze brings my mood down. I may move again as this place is too dark no real natural light at all.... Adds to the feeling of isolation I know with marriage and kids it is easy to lose contact with old friends.. Harder to get out and socialize as well.. Take care steve

Hi there,

Is good that you re settling at work but surely alcohol doesn t get down well with anxiety and depression..it s like a circle :if you re depressed ,you drink and if you drink ,the alcohol will leave more depressed then before!

And you re on medication ..

I don't go out much so I can avoid alcohol or if I do go out I have soft drink.(or maybe you can reduce the amount of drinks, one glass instead of two??)

Last time I drunk my sorrows and I ended up in hospital..too much drink and tablets don't work well togheter in long term ;-<

But I went through that fase when alcohol was my best friend..but I had to give up for my sake..i will just get worse mentally.

I hope you re thinking about what is going through you mind lately and how you re coping with it and see if there s another way to deal with things that it s not alcohol

Be strong

Hi Steve, how's Canada? Nice to hear you are doing well at work. As far as the social aspect, have you looked into joining clubs, like a book club or yoga class? I find that places like that are always welcoming. I began yoga early in the year and it's been great and I've met some really nice people.

I hope you can find something in your area. There are social activities that don't involve alcohol, try a few things maybe you fall in love with something new and meet some nice people along the way.
