Why can't anyone figure out what I have!?

Over the past 3 months I have been experiencing the most horrible symptoms. My symptoms vary and I have no idea what triggers them. I can be sleeping, laying down, at the store, sitting, it doesn't matter. My symptoms include, extreme chest tightness, dizzy spells, numbness on the back of my head, hoarse voice, closed throat, cold sweats, and weakness. I suffer from mild asthma and hypothyroidism and I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. I've been to the ER 6 times with these symptoms and I've had x-rays, MRI's done, EKG's, a stress test done, CT scans of the lungs and thyroid, and nothing shows up! The docs say that i just have anxiety and i do agree at some point, i mean who wouldn't panic if you can't breathe? I'm sick and tired of doctors saying that i have nothing. I feel like i'm going to pass out. I can't drive. I can't leave the house. My life is a mess. I even went to one the best respiratory hospitals in the U.S., National Jewish - they can't find anything either. I don't know what's going on and i feel worse and worse. I just want to know if anyone is having the same symptoms. Please help.

Hi, like you im in the middle of this fight, had scans, various meds, none have worked, 15 months on and im still the same, stay positive, slow breaths, and relax. Learning to cope and accept the anxiety is a start to dealing with it. Take care, always a listening ear on this site x

Some of the symptoms you describe will be your Hashimoto's, eg the hoarse voice. You may also have a condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, otherwise known as POTS. It presents very similar to anxiety and can cause anxiety so it's possibly you may have both. It's a condition that causes multiple symptoms. It's when the autonomic nervous system gets messed up. Check out this website for more information: rarediseasesnetwork.epi.usf.... You'll need to have a tilt table test to see if POTS is also your problem. The good news is there is treatment for POTS and people do make a full recovery with time, physical therapy and sometimes with medication.

Here is a list of specialists all round the UK. potsuk.org/specialists Have a look and see if you can get a referral to the one that's nearest to where you live. Specialist clinics are few and far between but the most notable are the Sheffield POTS clinic, Dr Nicholas Gall's clinic in London and Prof Julia Newton's clinic in Newcastle. Usually it's a cardiologist, sometimes an electrophysiologist.
