I'm wondering does anyone get the same as me? I find myself falling asleep and then I wake with a massive jolt, then when I'm drifting back to sleep my heart starts racing and then the panicking starts. I'm so tired all the time as this happens 3-4 Times a week. Is thus anxiety or is it something else? Help x

Hi Adele, I have had this few times and out it down to anxiety x I think its as we over think what has happened before and convince ourselves that it will again x So when we totally relax and go to sleep the mine suddenly remembers hang on were,nt we anxious and it jolts you awake, of course the panic then comes as you are anxious as to what has happened x Try writing down in a book when you go to bed how you feel and that it may happen but it will not worry you x Then if you wake write down again how you felt and id it was you over thinking that may of caused it x The more you become aware it will happen the less it may x Donver xx

Thank you for replying I have been to my doctors more times than enough and every time they say it's anxiety. It's just so hard to believe that something can make u feel so very ill and it all b in it head x

in reply to adele78

No probs x Yes indeed this anxiety thing can make us feel really ill in many ways x It is in the head yes but it triggers off in so many other areas, as your muscles tense it leads to cramp and tension causing headaches and eye strain x It can also do a whole host of other things x Try to not think of it to much and to just go with the feelings while telling yourself it is no more than anxiety and it can not harm you xx

I do this everyday and I hope someday it will leave me

I think we all live i hope that it will leave us x but anxiety is something everyone has at some point x We just need to learn to live with it and hope thats enough x

Hi

I have been falling to sleep & felt my body jolt or my legs jolting & it has woke me up !

I believe it is when the muscles are relaxing & as we seem to tense them so much even at times at realizing it , I understood when my doctor told me gave me that explanation

I know it can be hard to believe anxiety can do this but it can & does !

I hope knowing you are not alone with this happening will reassure you a little :-)

Love

Isn't it horrible what anxiety does to us, and unless someone has been suffering from it they will never understand how bad it makes you feel. I do keep telling myself that it is just the anxiety and it will pass but I always have this niggling feeling, but what if it's not and maybe it's a heart attack I'm taking! Does this sound silly? My counsellor put it all down to a car accident I had almost 18 years ago, and different life circumstances that has happened, she reckons that I'm always thinking but what if ?

in reply to adele78

Hi adele

Sorry I have just spotted your reply !

No it doesn't sound silly its quite normal & I can still think that way & do when I am worried

I do think a lot of times something that has happened in the past can trigger this way of thinking

Someone once said to me all these "what ifs " what if they never happen you have wasted time worrying over nothing

I thought about what they said & did see their point , even though its easier said than done to think that way when you have anxiety but I try & keep saying it to myself

Hope you are ok & again I am sorry I have only just noticed & got round to replying :-)

Dear Adele,

The massive jolt that you describe is somewhat familiar to me. Once in a while( once every 5-6 months approximately), as I am lying in bed( it appears that I am still awake), I get a kind of shock, it is almost like an electric shock, and it is almost asif i go upwards.

hugs,
