Back on the beta blockers...

So I went to the doctors this morning and explained how the palpitations were getting worse, they were lasting days on end and lasting longer when my heart was fluttering...not sure what I was expecting her to say. Well she said that the 24 hour monitor had come back fine. It was completely normal throughout and she wanted to me to try propranolol again on the lowest dose of 10mg 3 times a day..really I can take them when I like as long as no more than 3 a day. At first I thought okay maybe this will work so I took one at lunch and I guess for a little while I felt okay but right now I feel like I'm all going again...now my mind is saying "okay did that tablet help earlier but is making you feel crappy now or is it cos you need to take another one"

Now I know I have low blood pressure so now I'm thinking how can my heart cope with something designed to make your blood pressure lower when mines already low...what if this makes it so low something happens, I tell you it's tough work fearing snuffing it :-)

Should I continue to take them or just accept I'm too terrified to keep on taking them?

Yeah she must cause she checked my blood pressure, my pulse and then my lungs. So I suppose you could say she knows what she's doing but I guess I just freaked myself out lol xx

Well if she checked and new of blood pressure then it must be ok, I no they stop palps very quickly, as I was put on them when first had anxiety, as was at the docs, and palps were through the roof on there test, I was taken off them when I was admitted to a hospital soon after, for bad vertigo. Take them as prescribed, if you find they to much, then maybe knock off the middle one, I remember with my palps I could feel it kick in and stop them.

I think you may have to give this med a wee bit more time to kick in. All the best, Julie xx

If your blood pressure got too low, you would feel dizzy when you stood up, that kind of thing. It wouldn't be a disaster (but it might be a bit unpleasant so you would probably want to get your pills changed if it happened).

Since your heart has been monitored for 24 hours, you clearly don't have underlying heart disease. I suppose now the idea is that the propranolol will make your heartbeat less noticeable, so you stop being reminded of it during the day. Hopefully there is a happy medium where you don't notice your heartbeat, but you also don't have excessively low blood pressure. If your blood pressure does end up a bit low, it could be a bit unpleasant but it's not disastrous, so presumably the doctor feels it's worth a try.
