Had my first real anxiety attack today :'(

Im suffering from anxiety when in the house on my own, for just over 3 months now its been getting progressively worse! however today after visiting some family members i went to leave to come home and it all went down hill from there! i couldnt talk properly was stuttering and shaky, my body was shaking and twitching my heart was racing i thought i was going to pass out with a heart attack or something just at the thought of going home. ive never experienced this before. im worried it will affect my unborn baby :( my gp is useless bit i guess im just going to have to harrass them until i get some help. i dont know if i can carry on like this, especialy after todays little glitch, i dont want to ever feel like that again but i imagine it will happen.... :(

hope everyone else is well! :)

  • Hello suzie

I do remember & no I have said to you that I was like that when i was pregnant , but please let me reassure you it wont affect your baby , not at all , so thats one worry I dont feel you need to have

Some of this could be to do with you been pregnant , it can be a scary time , I no I was very worried & i loved to be with people that made me feel secure

I no you have said your GP is rubbish , what about your mid wife , they can be very good & supportive , have you had a word with them about this , I am sure they would or should support you & reassure you that they have had women that have felt the same as you when expecting , if you have mentioned it , mention it again , they can also support you with telling your GP

Try & make an appointment as soon as you can , because you should be getting extra help in your condition

Again dont worry about your baby they will be fine

Let us no if you get to see your GP or midwife

    Keep coming on & talking

    Love

  • He Suzie I wud have a word with ur midwife as whywhy as said. This won't harm ur baby and it cud be all down to ur hormones. I will add that I was like this at one point where the thought of going home alone wud said me into a panic attack. I wud be out the house as soon as my OH left. If he went to the shop with a minute of him going I wud be sat on the wall outside. I've took little steps to where I am now I can be in all day on my own but if my OH is out working the night I can't stop on my own xxxq

  • I had my first panic attack when I was pregnant with my second daughter. I remember being so scared and lay in bed, cuddled up to my husband, shaking away. This lasted for quite a few hours but eventually it subsided.I thought I was in labour at one point. I did continue to have attacks after that but not so severe..I was also affected by being in my own house and hated it when night came. I would sit on the doorstep for ages in the fresh air!! My daughter was born safe and sound and after attending Uni and gaining her degree , now has a very good job and earns heaps!! So the panic attacks did not seem to affect her. I really hope that you get help soon as they are so frightening. My thoughts are with you. xx

  • Animals (including humans) have a very strong need to be with others of their kind, for company and protection. Being pregnant heightens this instinct by a hell of alot, as you will feel more vulnerable, and want to be around others to protect yourself and your baby. Carrying a baby increases your heart rate any way as you need to pump twice the amount of blood, inhale twice as much oxygen, and digest twice as much food. All of these factors will make you feel more anxious no doubt.

Having panic attacks and being anxious won't harm your baby, but I do think you need to give your doctor a good kick up the backside to offer you a talking based therapy such as CBT, if you have suffered from anxiety longer than you have been pregnant. Being anxious all the time will make you tired, and whilst pregnant you need to be rested and sound. Staying with friends or family will comfort you enough to feel safe and secure in your pregnancy, and in yourself as a whole.

Anxiety is not inheritable, but it is a learnt behavior. I am 18 years old and have suffered from many forms of mental illness, sparking when I was 13. I know for a fact my behavior is learnt, it runs in my family as something we have learnt and copied from each other, not because we have genes that will 'make' us anxiety prone.

Yourself and your baby are fine, do not worry about it. It is very daunting having a panic attack, I have only ever had 1 but been so close to hundreds, they do feel very much like a heart attack, but a panic attack is not any danger to you. If another comes around, but concentrate on your breathing, breathe in for 3 seconds and exhale for another 3, until you feel you have control over it, it will subside.

As whywhy said, consult your GP and your midwife, you are extra entitled to the help you deserve and need.

Good luck, and not to be cheeky, but when is your due date? I want to place a bet on when the bubba will be born!;)
