Just started getting treated for anxiety and depression. Was going okay but today I am having a bad day. I'm on edge. Like crazy. And it just got worse. I decided to walk my dog to run off some energy. I walk out, look up, something, possibly a bat, flies over and something wet lands in my eye.
I am utterly, utterly terrified of rabies, and have read that it could live in bats in this country. As a result my mind is now throwing up this scenario constantly in my mind. I now it's statistically unlikely but I am completely freaking out and cannot relax or eat or sleep. I'm supposed to be going on a trip tomorrow and my week feels ruined because of this.
I honestly have no idea what to do.

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time & a scary experience tonight. I can understand your concerns.
I'll focus on the practicalities if that's ok with you. I have always lived near bats so am quite interested in them. I can tell you some bats can carry a rabies-like virus. Since 1986 10,000 bats have been tested for it & just 9 have been found to carry it. It can possibly be transferred through a scratch or bite. You are only advised to see a gp if you have been bitten.
Not sure if I've said the right thing but I do hope that helps. Please go on your trip tomorrow & enjoy. Let us know how it went
Agree with Thomson - rabies is transmitted through saliva so you aren't at risk - one less thing to worry about.
Sorry to hear that you had such a bad day when things seemed to be going so well. It is just one of those things. Try not to be cross with yourself and panic that you may be backsliding or all those horrible tricks that the mind plays on us.
