I was prescribed it but it made me feel worse...I felt like my heart was beating out my chest but slower. So I gave up on them.

Everyone's different though..maybe just give them a try for a few days.

See where you are I was there about 2 months ago.

My answer has been Dr Claire Weekes book "Self help for your Nerves"

I carry it everywhere now and has helped calm me down. It's the only thing I would recommend right now.

I was on them for about 4 months and I loved them. They took every attack symptom away. I could finally live my life but had to come of them due to pregnancy. I personally would recommend if you've been prescribed them to take them. People normally feel worse for a few days before they start to feel the effects but it's worth it. Hope this helped

o/h took them about 6mnths ago when she was going through a very difficult time with anxiety attacks, she found them very helpful at the time, they stopped her heart from racing when she couldn't do it thru breathing exercises. give them a try they might just help. take care.

You can keep in touch with your doctor of speak to NHS direct and they will put you on to a nurse, or you can call the Samaritans, but take the pills. If they work for you then good, if they don't try any of the above. Don't feel you are alone. Your doctor has given them to you to take, they will not turn you into something you are not as soon as you take them, all these pills take a little while to work, up to 3 months, but as was mentioned they can act quite quickly to help you feel better. Stop being so hard on yourself. If you take them and feel worse after a few days speak to your doctor of any of the above. You just need some confidence and a bit of a handle on how you are feeling. Take them. We are all with you.

I took them about 2 months ago when i had really bad anxiety..my heart was beating 142 bpm .doctor put me on 60mg a day to calm the heart rate down which I must say did almost straight away. the only thing i would say is the side effects of cold hands and feet I couldnt get on with so the doctor reduced them to 20mg along with 50mg of sertraline a day which worked well for me..i no longer take them as sertraline has now got into my system and am feeling the benefits of the meds. I would definatley give them a try as all meds work differently for different people..like someone has mentioned above keep in touch with your gp if you have any doubts Good luck.xx

I have had propranol for at least 3 years and I only take it when I am really really anxious - which is maybe once a month now. It calms me down and stops my thoughts from racing, however I would not take it if I have to drive within hours of taking it, as it affected my concentration. It has been great for me in really difficult times.

I was given them over ten years ago as an 'instant' help with panic attacks. I took them a couple of times but was afraid to use them, but it was comforting that I had access to an quick fix if I felt really bad.
