Me too, when we did this house out in the 80’s we took all the old wrought iron fireplaces out, even had them in the bedrooms, I wish we’d kept them now as they are all back in fashion, thankfully we kept all the original architraves around the doors and windows .

You have a beautiful house and a very nice setting! How lovely to be a two-minute walk to the lake. I also like older homes that are updated as long as they have a good fundamental structure. Often you can't easily buy some of the old artistic styles they used to put into houses back then, like stained glass windows. I am sure this is especially true with British architecture's long, rich history.

in reply to Focusedmind

yes a lot have ripped them out but in our old part of town theres lots of old buildings some have preservation rules cant destroy or change the doors are small on some old houses and cottages people have grown 😄

Yes, we have Historic Preservation rules like that also, the difference is that in the western part of the U.S., the rules go back to the 1800's verses the much older history of the U.K. (In contrast, in the Eastern part of the U.S., our Historic Preservation rules go back to the 1700's because it was settled earlier than the western part of the U.S.)

Gerrerd: Here in the States, we call your "Japanese Acer" a "Red Japanese Lace Leaf Maple," although I see on Google its Latin name is "Acer Palmatum Seuryu," so I see where you get Acer from. I have two in my front yard, although not as big as yours, Ray.
