Hi everyone I’d like to start by saying that I was reading a lot of post with concerns having to do with symptoms and medications . Weather or not to ask their Doctor. And it spiked my anxiety, because I hate the thought of anyone being sick or getting hurt because of a Psychiatric medication or any medication .
So I’d like to give some advice to those of us who may have just started their Health journey and may have just started medications for the first time on that journey.
Not everyone has someone to talk to about safety tips for starting medications, and sometimes society and medical professionals write things off such as knowing what to ask when starting a new medication as “common sense” when reality is it’s not and not everyone may have had someone to teach them in life about what to ask a medical professional about when starting a new medication.
Tips:
1. When starting any new medication always ask for common side and uncommon side effects.
2. Ask if there are any side effects that are concerning enough to automatically seek medical treatment if experienced.
3. Never stop medications with out consulting a Doctor. And never try to wing off a medication on your own or restart a medication on your own.
4. If your taking a new medication know that sometimes it may come with side effects for about the first month before your body gets adjusted to it and they go away or reduce in severity. But talk to you Doctor about all the ones your having and how severe you are feeling them.
5. Ask when the half life on a medication is if you are being taken off to know how long it will stay in your system for. And to have an approximate time you will be feeling certain symptoms or for them to lessen or go away.
6. Know that if any of you are experiencing multiple of the following symptoms when on the psychiatric medication it’s probably best to contact your Doctor right away or go to the ER:
hallucinations , seizures, any flu like symptoms, severe vomiting , fever, extreme agitation, heighten heart rate, loss of mussel movement , or feelings of passing out.
Because this can sometimes indicate Serotonin Syndrome which is serious and life threatening!
I hope these tips will help any person who hasn’t had anyone in life to go over these things or for those who may not know what to ask when they are talking about starting a new medication.
Hope everyone stay healthy, as happy as they can be , and safe ☀️💕🙂
