Last year I saw this rather weird psychiatrist who was recommending the ketamine therapy to me. Most peoples health insurance does not cover it at all and you might be able to swing the initial treatment but then you’re supposed to come back about 6 months or a year later and get subsequent treatments and the bottom line is to keep doing this is just going to eat away at peoples bank accounts. I’m not so sure if this treatment has really been approved at all by the FDA or any other medical organization, it is still an experimental thing. I didn’t have it done, I still take some psychiatric medications.

I tried it over a year ago and did 4 infusions of it. My issue was primarily social anxiety and mild depression. Ketamine is a psychedelic and can make you have all kinds of vivid, wild and weird visual images it also makes you lose any sense of time and reality, at least that was my experience. The only benefit I can see of it is that it could allow you to gain insight and awareness into your higher power from a spiritual sense but I didn't need ketamine in order to do that, I am already able to do it on my own. I was told you can go back and reprocess old trauma while on ketamine but none of mine came up to reprocess. Frankly i'm not sure what the big deal is about ketamine. If I had not already been experienced with anxiety it could have been very upsetting.

It's also physically depleting and I had to have my wife drive me to the clinic and pick me up and I was wiped out the rest of the day.

Like I said, I don't have severe or untreatable depression and from what I understand, that is what it supposedly is best at treating.

It's also quite expensive and at the time was not covered by insurance. My injections cost around $500. ea. I stopped at 4 injections because I wasn't seeing any benefit from it, but we are all different and react differently to meds..
