How can I handle depression, anxiety and a broken heart?

Any suggestions about coping skills to get over a fresh broken heart that is causing deep depression and anxiety?

Interesting, this AM I listened to an inverview with someone on NPR who sounded fairly sane. Then he started discussing his constant battle with depression and made an observation that for him, if he threw himself completely into his work which was music and concerts, it would leave him drained with no energy to contemplate his mind and disatisfaction. I learned later in the interview that it was Bruce Springstein. I never thought much of his music but have a new found respect for his awareness, and that's cool. For me, when I have felt that way these last few months, I trail run and relish the hill climbs, it's my accessible OTC med, the results sounded quite similar. The first steps are the hardest but I have never got home feeling worse than when I started and 99/100 times it removes that gut punched feeling.

Sorry you are going through that, it's really rough.

sorry to hear about your pain; been there...

i don't know how much help this will be... but you're not alone...

one time, i lost someone... i was grief stricken; felt alone; abandoned and isolated no matter how many people were around me. couldn't talk to anyone. worst physical pain in my life... heart and gut imploded... i was paralyzed... couldn't function, or think straight...

only thing i know that heals that, is time... and i needed meds to ease the intensity of the feelings, while that time passed.

i can offer other thoughts... if but you're going thru anything like i did - i doubt they will help... but here goes (maybe you'll have better luck):

best 2 things for depression - exercise and meditation.

helps to have distractions - like focus on work, or hobby...

try not to obsess over what they could've done; what you could've done... unless there's a real hope of repair... try to move on... it's possible your best chance at repair - IS by moving on....

it does get better... but, at least for me, the regrets still haunt me...

i think i have some more life changes ahead in order to get past that...

so maybe give some thought to your life - are you happy with your life aside from the broken heart? or were you depending or leaning on your partner for all your happiness?

if you have joy beyond your partner - focus like he!! on that right now!! if you don't - FIND SOME!!!

I am sorry you are suffering! I know that a broken heart can worsen our feelings of depression. I am sorry you have anxiety too! Walking outside can help us physically and mentally. Exercise can provide a lot of benefits but if you are not able to exercise, walking outside can also have positive effects on us. Is it very hard to engage in hobbies right now? I know that it can be very hard to feel like doing things. We must force ourselves to do some things and I know that that can be hard too. Do you think talking with a counselor would help you? Are you able to get together with a good friend? When I had my heart broken I searched online for prayer lines and called many places asking them to pray for me. It would make me feel better even though I had to call them again on other days because the pain would not go away forever quickly. Your heart will mend and heal one day. But it is important to do things that are helpful and necessary. I hope that you do things that are good for you.
