Cross tapering from Zoloft to Prozac

Does anyone have experience with this? I’ve been on Zoloft since July but not seeing the results I’d like, and in bad habits since starting like laziness and gaining weight. My doctor is switching me over to Prozac. I am currently on 100mg of Zoloft, and eventually getting to 20mg of Prozac. For the first week, I will take 50 mg of Zoloft and 10mg of Prozac, then the 2nd week will be 25mg of Zoloft and 10 Prozac. I’m worried about side effects? Has anyone had side effects doing this? My Zoloft side effects weren’t fun when I first started so I’m worried. Also, any troubles with mixing the two drugs, like getting sick or anything? Thanks!

Hi there

I was on Prozac once and I went from some other antidepressant.

Prozac is pretty easy med on the body.

I felt a little nausea for a few hours I got a lovely hi then that was it.

If you start worrying to much about what might or might now happen you will work your self in to a stew.but I totally get where your coming from.

Just drink loads of fluids yer

Good luck

I did the reverse of what you are doing, I went from Prozac to Zoloft. Honestly the change over was completely fine for me. I was on 75 mg of Prozac and it had helped my depression but wasn't doing much for my anxiety so I switched over to Zoloft. I didn't even taper off the Prozac, I just went from the 75 mg of Prozac to 50 mg of Zoloft (all under my prescriber's supervision). I didn't have any severe side effects or anything. When I had first started the Prozac I had some headaches and days where I just felt emotionally off, but that was only the first few weeks and most likely was my body adjusting to the serotonin increase. When I started the Zoloft I didn't have any headaches, I'm assuming because both meds are SSRI's and my body was already used to the higher serotonin levels. Now I'm at 150 mg of Zoloft, my only side effects are dry skin, increased acne, and I've been having a stuffy/runny nose but I'm not sick so I'm guessing it's the Zoloft. Prozac is a very forgiving drug since it has a long half life. Hope this helped some and I hope the switch works out ok.

I have a long sordid history with Prozac. When I first started, I had "hallucinations". Nothing awful; just interesting designs passing in front of me while I was going to bed. Either they didn't happen during the day or they were so mild, I was able to ignore them. Now I don't get them unless I forget to take it. I'm on 40 mg now because 20 wasn't working for me. I also have OCD.

Thank you! Does the higher dose seem to help your OCD?

I’ve always had a mixed feeling about meds. They terrify me, and yet I hope they might help. I’m on 10mg of Prozac, which seems to be about as effective as a higher dose. I was taking it with zyprexa, which thankfully I’m off of. Honestly the best thing I take I think is lithium oratate, which is like micro dosing lithium. 15 mg. I have GAD and MDD. The anxiety is a tough one to deal with. I also go to see a therapist and do Emdr, which maybe be the most beneficial. Good luck and try to take things one day at a time.
