Making Up for Lost Time

If you have a day, week, month, or year of emerging from the hell of depression, do you ever wish you could make up for lost time? Or do you want to squeeze every bit of life out before you slip into depression again, if you do? For me it’s a combination. Write that book. Climb that mountain. Get crazy getting in shape. Travel. Get it all in because you’ve missed so much time suffering the torture of the damned and it may hunt you down yet again. So much of your life, years, when all the joy within you died. Of course you can never get it back. How do you feel about that? Are you just thankful for even one good day? Or is there a hole inside that can never be filled? Is it a little bit of both? Neither? I’ve always wanted to ask that question of my depression “colleagues”. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I try not to think about the things I missed out on because of my depression. I try to accept it. And I'm thankful if I have a good day. I do wish I would have more good days though.

Hi catsamaze. There’s a saying: when you are happy, don’t be too happy. When you are sad, don’t be too sad. This pandemic is teaching me to be content exactly where I am. Everything has to be in moderation as I go with the flow of the Universe 🤗🙏

I try to be thankful for each good day I get. But since anxiety has held me back from so much, and now I am feeling that my youth and enthusiasm are slipping away, it’s hard not to wallow in regret even on the good days. I feel like so many ships have sailed, like I’ve missed so many chances that I will never get back. It’s tempting to give up since I feel like I will never make up for the lost time. 😕 Keep reminding myself that there is always a way forward.

Phil,Im inclined to think and feel like that, what we should be thankful for is health, everything could all seem pointless without it ,but I do understand what you mean as I too have missed out on many things in my uneventful life,so maybe we should spend more time in what we can do and visualise a better existence and count our blessings for small mercies!!!
