Not Properly Grieving

I have suffered from anxiety since I was a child. I am very familiar with them both. However, a little over two years ago I lost my dad after a nasty battle with cancer. I went to counseling when he went on hospice and went to one session after he died (insurance reasons). I realize that the past couple of years I have been numbing myself. I felt that was better than to feel pain. Now, my marriage is suffering because of it. Tomorrow, I am meeting with a new counselor. I am nervous, but hopeful I can finally grieve properly.

ToFindPeaceAgain, I extend to you my deepest sympathy. We all grieve in our own way

and in our own time. Sometimes the help of a counselor will help bring those hidden emotions to the top so that you can deal with them. Nothing can lessen the pain but time.

The good memories are what we need to hang onto while healing. Good Luck with your

appointment tomorrow. I went through the same thing at one time. :) xx

Best wishes for your counseling appointment! Hope it’s helpful. I’m sorry for your loss.

So glad you made an appointment. It may be a difficult journey, but you need to allow yourself to feel the pain. The counselor should be able to help you walk that journey in a safe way. Prayers for peace and strength through the grieving process.

I know all about numbing oneself. It’s a really difficult pattern to break. If you find the answer let me know 😃

Good for you for going to therapy. I hope you like your person and it helps!
