So my third grader is not doing what he needs to do for school online. It takes me forever to get him to sit and pay attention and it’s a continuous struggle and I end up frustrated with him. So I told him okay I don’t want to continue trying with you fighting me so you will do it all by yourself to the best of your ability. He just hates school. The only thing I can think of doing is rewarding him when he gives the effort and tries. I’m so sad right now. I like to vent so thanks for listening. I feel like when I’m able to take another step away from the situation it may be more clear to me if Im handling the situation the way I need to. I love my child soooooo much but I feel like I’m not doing a good job with him right now and I’m worried about him. Thanks I’m glad to be heard.

This quite a similar situation to my sister who is trying to teach her 5 year old? How old is your son by the way? She had employed a tutor for the time being. Have you thought about getting your son a tutor?

He’s 8. I haven’t really considered hiring a tutor. It crossed my mind though. Hmmmm *sigh

Maybe consider it one or two days a week? I do feel for you. I tried to teach my niece and she has very short attention span. Not sure if she is playing up or is just disinterested?

Thanks. Maybe. I feel terrible because I got really impatient with him. I’m so done.

So sorry this is going on, big problem for so many right now. I like idea of tutor - maybe a college kid/graduate who is having tough time finding work right now. Hang in there

I feel your pain, I am doing online school with my 6 year old boy and it's really frustrating because he doesn't listen and he can be very rude to me. He listens to his teacher and is a good boy at school, but at home he is totally the opposite. He is shy with other people that's why he behave. I set some rules and I am hoping things will get better. A lot of parents struggle with this and we have to do our best. Don't be so hard on yourself you are doing a great job. I two more teenagers doing online and sometimes they interrupt and distract him when I am teaching him and it seems like my day was a waste because not much was accomplished. Wishing you all the best

Thanks so much for responding. I hear ya yeah it’s so hard. We just do our best, try to be patient and persevere. So you have three kids online schooling wow!!! I’m sire you are doing your best and what else can we do. I don’t think a tutor is the answer for me.

My son actually did beautifully today and I was giving reward to him of praise and chocolate. He even enjoyed writing which is really amazing.

Best to you!!!!!!!

I believe this is for me. Yes, I have 3 kids doing online school. I give my son brakes between his school work and he plays outside. He has a lot of work for a child that is just learning how to read and write. I am glad we did online school because the schools are going to close tomorrow and everyone will be doing online school. He was sick all the time and he missed more school days the last two years than he attended. I have Hashimoto's and I struggle a lot with so many symptoms so everything is really difficult to deal with. I reward my son too for his hard work and it's not easy on the kids. It's hard for them to understand all these changes. Best of luck and be kind to yourself. Big Hug.
