This post is about being a female and some of my mental health issues. Are there any other women who deal with their mental health issues the most during their period? It is such a strong force that not much helps. I just have to wait it out for a few days. It feels like a chemical imbalance. My whole being changes- my appetite, body, mood, soul. I don’t sleep well. I know when it’s coming without knowing the date. My whole mood shifts the days before, as if my body is giving my brain a warning sign. I don’t take care of myself in these days like I normally would because that’s not what’s important. I don’t have the energy to do the things that would make me feel normal or better. Then, it all shifts back to some what normal again- but slowly. Today I’m starting to feel like myself again. Enough to push myself to better myself. I had a decent night sleep last night. I already cleaned the house and did my hair and makeup. And what a difference that makes. Simply doing my makeup and a putting a little curl in my hair makes me feel human again. Like I’ve got color again in my life, if that makes sense. It’s not all blah and dull. I can enjoy my daughter again and not have such a short fuse with her or my husband. I feel like I’m able to manage my depression for 3 weeks out of every month, but don’t feel connected to much when I have my period. And it’s getting slightly worse as I get older. Any other females feel similar?

I totally get it! I have always had very painful periods and got very irritated and had a short fuse, so bad I couldn’t stand myself. I believe I have always suffered from PPMD. Finally in my mid to late 20’s I found a wonderful Dr. who understood and put me on continuous birth control. She explained that we don’t have to have our period every month. Oh my gosh it was a life saver! I only had my period every 3 months sometimes longer. I am 47 now and have high blood pressure so have to switch to a progesterone only pill and am having problems but I know my GYN understands and we will find the pill to give me relief again. This maybe something you want to talk to your Dr. about.

Hope you can find the answer and if you want to talk more I would be happy to.

Thank you! What is PPMD? I googled it but couldn’t find an answer. We are currently trying to get pregnant again so birth control won’t be a solution. But it is evident as I get older it’s getting slightly worse. I never had cramps up until about a year ago. And they’re bad. It is something to keep an eye on and work with my doctor on finding a solution
