I have PTSD and I am easily startled. I'm not sure what your situation is.

I’m easily startled. I have the potential to be in such deep thought that I block out every noise like I’m in a bubble. I cannot hear people walking up to me, back ground noise, etc.

My husband startled me at least 3 times today. I’ll be in my own world then boom, there he is. I jump out of my skin takes me 5 minutes to regain composure. 😁

Hi Roxie,

My sister has the same response. It's partially because her one eye is blind so anyone coming up on that side to her is so very close before she notices. There's also a lot of trauma that she's dealing with.

Her new husband's teenage children thought it was funny and a cute game to scare her. So I bought her a taser. And the new rules are if the kuds play the game to scare her then she's going to play the game to taze them. Surprisingly enough nobody wants to play anymore.

But more seriously, if this is affecting your life please go and seek help. You may be able to find out what's causing it and resolve the issue. Or you can get a taser and have some fun.

I hope you have a wonderful day Roxie. Blessings to you .

What caused your PTSD ?.

I had a car accident many decades ago and I was ill after that and I nearly never drove again.

I took me about a year after healing to gain back my confidence.

You mention you are so intent on what is going on you have problems relating or hearing any noise from behind you.

First did you talk to your GP PTSD is treatable and you can be given assistance to approach your fears and the best way of moving on through this problem. That is why you need to consider the cause and effect and become less sensitized to your fears of people approaching you from the rear.

This problem can be laid down to Fight or Flight, it sounds like you are so concentrated on what is happening in front of you. You are unable to relate to what is going on behind, in other words it makes me feel the actual fear/anticipation is unable to switch of while you are looking in front. You need to discuss this with your Doctor who will arrange some therapy to help you relax.

If you are anxious when something like this happens breathing exercises may help you bring down the shock you have. Take deep breaths through your mood hopefully you will be able to calm yourself.
