Getting creative & mastering the temporary new norm of staying at home

To cure the stir crazy boredom the kids and I put on our rain boots and grabbed are umbrellas and had a dance off in the pouring rain & then built mud castles (also allowing them to work on some tactical and creative skills) I brought out the buckets of food dyed rice and food dyed pasta. Did we get dirty yes but theres a washer & dryer and warm bubble baths. Was it worth it? Most definitely. Get the kids outside on your own property if they are stir crazy. Create valcanos in your kitchen, grow gems with them, paint some rocks, play board games, let them experiment with paint or popsicle sticks, Make calm down bottles, play jump rope in the house, let them play kick ball in the basement or even set up a volleyball net down there. If they are younger play dont jump in the lava have them run back and forth and pretend there’s lava traps tell them to jump as they are running. Just get creative and think outside the box heck even make cardboard gingerbread houses if you have to. Also now is a good time to work with your kids on self regulation skills, coping skills, life skills, self confidence, self reliance, homesteading skills, or any other skills that would benefit them in the future. This staying at home stuff doesn’t have to be dreadful and depressing. Use this time to teach our children, the leaders of the future skills that they have not mastered yet. Cherish this time with them. They grow up way too fast. Enjoy the family time that you are getting to have with them.

You are so awesome!

Good ideas. I'm home now for a while so I will reconnect with my child because it really could be the last chance I have.

sounds like you had a fun day and made good memories !

I did😊 tomorrow is supposed to be 70 degrees out and Thursday is supposed to be 80... its the perfect weather to have some frozen popsicals and to have a pool party. I also got some balloons to have a water balloon fight and I am setting up the slip and slide. I stocked up on some bubbles too to have a who can blow the biggest bubble contest. We have two very good days of weather before it drops back down to the 40s and I am going to use these days to our advantage! I also will be setting up the tents in our backyard to have a “camping night” and got stuff to make s’mores and marshmallow strawberries. It will be an ah-maaazing two days I am determined it to be. Some of my foster kiddos are having a really rough time with not being able to see their biological parents due to the offices being closed to visitations because of the virus. I treat my fosters just like I treat my own biological and adopted kids. They all deserve to have fun and build positive memories especially in their hard times.
