Anxiety from Covid-19. An I vulnerable?

Hey all.

As a lot of you, the anxiety has really increased due to Coronavirus. I have terrible health anxiety without this and I constantly feel sick. In 2017 I had a blood clot on the lung and then due to infection and an enlarged lymph node I ended up having an operation on my lung. There were a few complications to get my lung back up. Do you think this makes me more vulnerable to corona virus? Or is the vulnerable more directed to the elderly and those with serious conditions?

High risk is the elderly and those with serious underlying health problems especially respiratory and heart ones. If you don't come into those groups then it's extremely unlikely you are going to be very ill with it and even more unlikely you would die. Don't let your anxiety about it turn you into a nervous wreck.

Thank you for replying so quick. Thankfully my work has told us to work from home, so that has calmed the anxiety a lot more. My health anxiety and then previously having an operation on my lung just made me a tad concerned. Thank you for being reassuring, it’s a difficult time for everyone.

Please try to calm down. Turn off news.... distract yourself... get out into sunshine and fresh air. Avoid crowds, wash hands, cover your cough with elbow. You will be fine... stressing will only compromise your immune system for no reason... you are safe.😊☀️🌷

Thank you. That really did make me smile. I think I’m going to relax this evening and read my book called “The secret” to try to think more positively. It’s so hard to stop worrying on a day to day basis usually with germs and illnesses, without this virus but thank you for your kind words. 🌼

“The Secret” that sounds interesting... what’s it about? Is it a mystery, conspiracy theory, leaked docs.. crime or spy story? 😊😂

It’s a self-help book written by Rhonda Byrne and it’s all about the law of attraction and how to think positively and how your own thoughts can change your mind. I found it helpful. 😄

Hi, I am 77 and not in the least bit worried. I know worry will only stress me and that in turn will bring down my immune system. Glad you can work from home. As your op. was 2/3 years ago, and you got a good clean bill of help from your Dr. another reason not to worry. Just keep taking all the precautions the cdc recommends and you should do well. I send you Peace, love & Hugs.....Sprinkle 1......

Aww thank you Sprinkle, your words mean a lot to me. It’s hard to put positive thoughts in the whole situation with the constant scaremongering. I never really thought about my Op from that perspective, thank you. Hope you are well and this whole situation isn’t affecting you or your loved ones xxxx

So glad if I could be of help to you. I know how it is to worry, did it for decades, then learnt how to give it up, have not worried about anything in 30 years. Feels so nice. Try not to watch TV too much, there are always scaremongers out there. Find programs you like, get some DVD's I have a pile of them. And lots of books, I have many.

I am all by myself, I came from England 50 years ago, so I am very concerned about my brother and his wife, they moved last week and their phone was cut off. I know they will be So busy, I have hoped for an email with their new No. but have not got one yet, he is 59 so hopefully still in the safe range!!!??**

I really do not have anyone else to be concerned about except his twin brother who lives in London, but we do not have much contact!!! My life is quiet, the friend I had here died last Aug. I moved from Calif to SC so left friends back there who have died or are dying. But I am happy, I have 2 cats I love very much, I do volunteer work at the library, I love it and they are a lovely bunch of women, and they have accepted me. So to me I have got it made.....Hang in there sister, we will get thru this, I think of it like a world war, we all have to pull together, and hope it will in time pass, and that the scientists will come up with a vaccine..I send you Love, Peace & Hugs...Sprinkle 1.....

I am still in my 20s, so I often tell myself I have a lot to learn and the worries and concerns should fade in time. My partner is still in work, but with myself being made to work from home, I feel I will have a lot of time to myself and will have to try and keep myself sane in this house. I’ll definitely have to make a list of things to watch and other books to read (definitely not the news).

Did you say your family moved to England or moved elsewhere? My grandmother is very much the same. My family live in a very rural area of South Wales UK, so she live pretty much out of the busy day to day life. Where as I live practically in the city and I’ve been interacting with a lot more people, so I haven’t visited in awhile. She is planning on self isolating for a long period, so as you said yourself, I hope she finds things to keep her occupied and busy whilst I’m not there to visit. We have other family around. Some of my nans brothers and sisters live in the US and we are hoping their trip in early summer can still go ahead also. It’s great to hear you volunteer, it’s something I’m very much interested in. I used to volunteer in a food bank, I loved it - great atmosphere and great people. Once again, thank you for your kind words and I hope you and all your family stay well. I really do hope you hear from your brother and family soon X

Hello, sitting here going thru emails, see if there any I can delete I have over 600, they pile up on me daily!!! I answer the important ones....

Glad to say I got an email from my brother today with his new phone number, and saying they are Very busy. They are keeping well. So that settled my mind.

I moved from the UK 50 + years ago, so left all my family behind. My Mother and Father are both gone, so I am left with 2 brothers.

I suggest you put on some easy listening music for a background comfort, I have several stations on my TV, a lovely one, that has no commercials and prints positive quotes also. I loved Wales, we went camping there when I was a kid. I am sure your grandmother will be OK, I am OK and I do not mind being by myself, there is so much to do and learn, there is never enough time in the day for me to do all the things I want to. And now I am older I crash about 5 p.m. so I make my dinner, feed my cats, go and read or watch a DVD.....Yes volunteer work is rewarding, but now we cannot do it, because of the virus. They called me from the library yesterday and asked we do not go in for at least 3 weeks, I think it will turn out longer than that, if the virus keeps on spreading they will probably close the library.

Try not to worry, it solves nothing, I'll share a lesson I learnt years ago that helped me, 50% of the things we worry about, never happen, the other 50% IF they happen we deal with them, so why worry?!!! Another one I like is worry is like a rocking chair, it is in motion, but it is going Nowhere..... Learn these lesson now while you are young, they will make your life so much better. Hope this mail is of help. Sending you love and big hugs....Sprinkle 1...

I am in my 60's with lung disease but not severe. I guess I am in a high risk group but unless I am ill there is no way I am self isolating. A few sensible precautions and that's it folks. I live on my own and having too little company would do my head in. x

Aw no - sorry to hear that. It makes my post seem kind of silly when people have on-going issues, when mine has been operated on. Apologies. I agree - you don’t want to isolate and have no human interaction. Do you have others around incase we are told to fully go into lock down? x.
