It feels like I'm going to choke when I try to swallow my food.

Anybody ever feel like they are going to choke when you are eating? I have this problem when my anxiety is high, so bad that I have to eat small bites of soft food. I was doing good eating for awhile then I had that one small doubt in myself and the fear is back. If you have experienced this what did you do to help you? Because this is really becoming a problem, every meal I eat is a chore and I'm full of fear. It makes me not want to eat.

I’ve definitely felt that and also a need to gasp pretty often, does that happen to you? Like almost I’m fading mid chew and I’ll feel I’m going to choke but in reality I’ve never choked.i sometimes get the feeling drinking water too. Sometimes I just pause for a second take a good breath and that works but sometimes I go the whole meal having to choke it down.

Yes breathing is hard too, and I've never choked either but the fear is still there, and eating is one of those things you can only avoid for so long.

For sure sometime I just take a break from my meal and come back to it after a while of slow breathing. I’m already thin so I definitely don’t like the appetite loss, which turns into other concerns for me to freak out over. Do you ever feel dizzy as if you are going to lose control? That seems to be my issue lately.

Yes I've gone through the dizzy thing and feel like I'm going to lose control. It's a chronic illness for me. If it's not one symptom it's another.

I hear ya, I used to believe I had heart problems but lately it’s shifted to more of a head thing (dizziness, pressure, gasping, the choking feeling etc) today has been one of those all day anxiety attack days that a just can’t seem to shake. It seems it comes in waves for me over the last 13 years or so. I never really solve anything it just seems to step down to tollerable for some period of time, and then all at once it’s back to extreme with a vengeance. This time I’m really trying everything, once my health care kicks back in I’m even considering meds I’ve been miserable with this too long.

Yes! Not me, but my husband has dealt with this same feeling almost his whole life. He went to an occupational therapist for a while who helped.

I have had this for last year and it drives me nuts... i literally do not wana eat.. then it got to point it was in the night to, i would think i couldnt swallow the wake up gasping.

What i noticed is on days im out and about and not thinking about it it stops!!

As in i was out with friend and had a bit of sourdough bread and marmalade and coz i was chatting nothing .. it was not till i got home i thought “ i ate that and nothing” so it is anxiety swallowing.

I have started goin to yoga as they teach u to stop shallow breathing which causes anxiety and how to deep belly breath and WOW the difference in my breathing anxiet and everything is mental.. i feel

So much calmer

Somedays are better than others but when it starts happening it's hard to stop and chill out.
