Extreme appetite zoloft

Has anyone experienced extreme appetite or hunger on Zoloft? I’ve never had a large appetite and for the past month or so I have an almost constant feeling of hunger that is not satisfied by any type of food. I’ve gained 10 pounds in 6 weeks and I’ve never done this before. It’s the most annoying thing I have EVER experienced. I went to dr who did bloodwork and everything is normal and in range and I recently have tapered off and 2 days ago switched to Prozac. Hunger is still there and just didn’t know if anyone had this similar experience and it go away after the drug leAves the body.

Yes! T

"Terminal munchies". I DC'd Zoloft long ago , it didn't help my PTSD induced depression.. My doctor couldn't figure out the connection between Zoloft and hunger.

As to Prozac, I had a zombie like experience with it.. Some people tolerate it.. I HATE it.. I felt like I was in a glass case, looking out and unable to interact with the rest of the world. Completely devoid of emotion and affect.. Oh, yeah, I gained weight with Prozac as well... I empathize with you but don't know what to say... Ever tried Paxil? Or Welbutrin?

Like you would be so hungry constantly and knew there’s no way you could possibly be hungry but nothing was ever satisfied?! So glad to know I’m not alone. Did it go away immediately after getting off of Zoloft?

Hi, yes, pretty much the hunger subsided when I dc'd the Zoloft.. I can't say for certain that there is any relation between the two.. It was many years ago and after my nightmare with Prozac. I still get the munchies for sweets in the evening especially... Maybe it's just me and a bad habit I've acquired over the years... My P.C.S. thinks it's related to type 2 diabetes.. Check with your doc and see if she/he has any insights.. Better still look for a licensed accredited dietitian. That may help.

I hear you... the worst feeling for me too because all my life I have been a very slender petite woman looking at least 10 years younger than my age. About 7 months ago when I started Zoloft, an insatiable appetite started and I gained 20 lbs. I am mad at myself and depressed and I will not take it anymore. I’m out of the country right now but I’m counting the days when I’ll come back home and see my doctor for change of medication. Meanwhile, although eating a lot, I try to walk it off and to eat healthfully. I would like to hear from you about your experience with your new medication.. !

Paxil 40mg daily in the morning.. It seems to be holding the major symptoms of depression at bay..Still need to simply motivate myself to "get up off it" many days, but certainly no longer sitting inside doing nothing..

GoodeveningMadibreann, I took Zoloft and increased three pant sizes in two months. I also went off of the drug and switched to Prozac. It took me awhile to loose the weight. Good luck.

Did the hunger subside after quitting Zoloft?

As I also use another drug which increases appetite, I am not sure. I just have to watch what I eat all the time. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Yes, me too, but I’m still on it. The drug is really working for me otherwise, controlling my anxiety , except now I’ve gained so much weight. At first I thought I just regained an appetite, bc I could barely eat during severe anxiety. But I surpassed the weight I lost and kept eating. Now I feel like my anxiety is under control, but do i have some kind of eating problem? Knowing it could be the Zoloft is helpful. I hope you find what you need

I’ve been on Zoloft for 3 years and this actually just started to happen to me in the past few months. I thought I had diabetes or some other medical issue and they checked everything and it’s fine. All I can think is Zoloft but it’s miserable being hungry all the time and not satisfied! I too went from an extreme low appetite for the majority of my life to this. It’s day 3 on Prozac and the switch is easier so far than anything I’ve ever switched to. I had no issues weaning off Zoloft either.

Yup! when I started sertraline, I couldn't eat, sleep, anxiety and depression thru the roof, everything initially became a lot worse, lost a lot of weight. Now, 10 months later, yes, I've gained, no, I don't know how much, I don't believe in scales n getting fixated on numbers. But, nonetheless, I have gained, and I'm sure its more than 10lbs. At one time, for a long time, that would really bother me, it doesn't nearly as much, and for myself, that speaks volumes! It tells me that the meds have worked, are working, etc...To me, its the lesser of two evils, meaning, I'd rather have the weight, then being trapped in my mind, with intrusive, irrational thoughts, fear, anxiety, and severe depression. Has it cured me, no! There is no cure. Has it really resolved my social anxiety completely, no, in fact, this is where its left me somewhat dissatisfied because SA/BDD have been a big problem! Either I need to have my physician up the dose, or augment it with another drug that would boost the current dose of zoloft. Alls I know, is that I'm out of the bleak , dark hole I was buried in, and the real lesson learned, is that through all the years of suffering, I need to be 'on something' all the time, the rest of my life. No more thinking I'm okay, and asking my Dr to titrate until completely weened off, that simply doesn't work. After awhile, I begin spiral all over again, and the vicious cycle starts. If you really want, a person can control their weight, exercise, diet, but you have the motivation, the drive. I think these drugs are weight gainers, despite what you read, that their weight neutral, no, their not. But, its about priorities and where 'you' are in life. Can't be worried about my appearance the way I used to be, I'm older now & changes are to be expected for most of us. Acceptance, the serenity prayer. Can anyone else relate to that? Good luck, n wud welcome any feedback from anyone who can relate to this. Thanks, everyone take care of yourself, nobody else will.🙏

Yes in my case I'm not sure it's hunger exactly but do find myself eating alot more and gaining weight as a result.

I think being diabetic is a factor as well for me.

Been taking Zoloft for 15+ years and my I seem to be always hungry.

Abilify hurt my body much more than helped. Didn’t stop gaining weight till I couldn’t afford it anymore.

It took about 6 months but i got my wight back to 115. I still see psychiatrist and make major efforts to not get put on anything.

I gained 40 lbs in one year while taking zoloft. It helped with anxiety and depression, but I can't continue gaining weight like this. I had weight loss surgery years ago, and zoloft is undoing all the hard work I put in to lose the weight. I am seeing my psychiatrist soon to speak about changing meds.

Yes, it’s very upsetting that it’s a side effect. I have been off Zoloft a week now, Although I also never seen any progress with anxiety with it so I have switched to Prozac!

YES! I couldn't stop eating.... at least I knew how to eat low fat. Insatiable appetite in me and my grown son. Reported it to doctor and he changed antidepressants for both of us. That was it.
