New year

Woke up depressed thinking I didn’t accomplish much this year. Almost like I am a waste of space. Does anyone else have these sort of feelings? I wish I was a bit more motivated but I feel like whatever I do I just don’t accomplish much.

I’m 56. I’ve had sporadic years or partial years, months, or weeks where I didn’t do well with my mental health. The world and stress do that to me. But I’ve had times where I’ve soared and done really well.

I think that’s why I like to stay right here in this moment when I’m doing well. It makes it last and I enjoy it. It doesn’t stop me from living my life.

May I suggest you look at shorter periods of time. The world is stressful. Moment by moment every human gets through.

I also like to look at some ‘down’ times as what I call cell regeneration. You had a cell regeneration year.

I’m glad you shared.

Thanks this is helpful . I think the world always analyzes the year as the major event with a retrospective of how we did, and what goals you have for next year. It can be really anxiety driven for me. I like the ideas of looking at smaller pockets of time and trying to ignore worldly expectations - just difficult

It is but we are smarter than that.

There's always The New Year!! It's okay to look back on this past year and not be fulfilled. Make some goals for next year!

Does that mean I would be let down again haha

I'm almost 60. When I look back, I "wasted" several years of work on projects that didn't pan out. Another year I accomplished nothing, in the world's eyes, because I couldn't work due to anxiety. But personally there was huge growth that year. I agree with the comments about focusing on shorter time periods, especially going forward. Set tiny goals until you're ready for more. I also think life is a long game. We shouldn't be too judgmental about the past. Many people who have been through tough times have used their experience to do something really meaningful in the end. The future always contains possibility.
