Lexapro & klonopin first trial

So just saw my physiatrist for the first time today and he's putting me on both lexapro and klonopin.

Anyone have any good experience on these medications. Everyone's different but just curious on some positive reviews for general anxiety

I took lexapro and it did not work for me. Many times a physician will prescribe klonopin for the first 30 days of anti depressant use as the first few weeks can provoke additional anxiety. My dr did this. Unfortunately, I came to enjoy the feeling I got when I took the klonopin. It is very addictive and needs to be used with caution.

in reply to

I agree Benzos are addictive

We are all different so what suits one may be problematic with another.

Allow five weeks for the medication to work. be patient. Follow the prescription do not self prescribe. Your GP or Therapist may increase the dose of your medications between 3 or 5 weeks, you will need to allow a further week to let the stuff get in your system

For sure, I just gotta give it a shot..

Anything to get back to reality

Funny thing is my next apointment with the physiatrist is in 5 months because hes the only one here and is seeing many people... so Idk how to go about dosage. He just placed me on the lowest dosage for the whole 5 months until we see eachother again 🤷🏽‍♂️

in reply to

It all depends on how you are and what He thinks is will do the trick.

Looking to get back to reality, I have been hoping for that for the last fifty years, my Wife says lol

A 5 month re evaluation is ridiculous. When meds are started and/ or changed evaluation should be much sooner that that.

How do you get refills over that 5 month period?

My suggestion would be to hound that md with any issues you have. Speak up for yourself. Are you in therapy also? The therapist can speak to the md about anything concerning.

Take care my friend.

Tell them dolphin...5 months is way to long..

My apointment card says April 24 and he also told me hes booked so far ahead..

So I'm just gonna ride this out for 5 months..

He did say I need a counselor while taking the meds so I'm gonna book me one in the next week or so. I would assume if the meds ain't right or whatever the situation is that the counselor can contact him to maybe up the dose or switch the meds.

And I will speak up for myself dolphin..

Lmao 🤣🤣 I was reading your comment then felt your sudden rush of adrenaline 🤣🤣🤣 I was almost scared for a moment

Like my mother was yelling at me lmao.

Thank you dolphin you are amaza'zing

LOL on that adrenaline rush. I get so upset when the medical field lets people down. I've been around medicine for so long, as a nurse, a patient, a caretaker. I never hesitate to push the system and speak my mind.

I know my therapist with go right to the MD to discuss changes she sees in me if she's concerned. I always spend a few minutes with my therapist reviewing my meds every session.

I just want to be sure you know to not sit back for 5 months if things don't feel right.

Any concerns give me the number I will call them for you haha!

Be well my friend. ☕️

in reply to Dolphin14

Lol 🤣🤣🤣 I bet you would....

Thank you for being so informative and honestly I could use much more advice before starting these meds. So I'm aware you've been dealing with this for many years as for me I'm still new to this including meds. So I take it , it's best to sit with a therapist or counselor before taking this medication yea?

Atleast so they would know I'm going on it and also to evelauate my well being actions thoughts and behaviors.

I agree this should be done this way.

By the way are you on any SSRI's if you dont mind me asking. I like to know I'm not alone lmao

You are definitely not alone. So many people are on meds. You would be surprised if you took a survey of people you know. Most people don't talk about it.

I've been off and on so many meds over the last few years. It's been kind of crazy. Lexapro was not one I was ever on so I couldn't respond to that part of your post.

If you don't have a therapist lined up my advice would be to start the meds as the md prescribed. They have a chart on you with diagnosis and symptoms. So you have been evaluated. The meds are going to take time to kick in.

I used to write things down. How I felt when I started, the date I started, side effects I had, if I felt better one day than the other, how I slept etc etc.

So when I went to my appointments I had accurate data to report. We know our body the best. So if something doesn't feel right you call that Dr.

Ask questions at your therapy appointments. These people are working for you and with you.

Thanks dolphin I'll do just that, I know if things ain't right I'll be knockin at their door . But I'm hopeful things will be fine , I'll also write down from day 1 so I can share this with my therapist.

You take care dolphin thank you for your advice it's very much apreciated

Do you not mean five weeks ??

BOB

in reply to

5 months...april 24th is my next apointment

in reply to

My Doctor cannot go beyond four weeks, we have to phone nearer the time.

For example I have an appointment on the 2/01/2020, When I saw my GP last time.

I could not make an appointment I had to phone in or call on the web one week later. Mostly because of Christmas and New Year.

My next appointment is to do with withdrawal of Opiate medications, and resettling other drugs I have been taking, because of withdrawal problems

All the very best, Happy New Year

Ya I understand...

Over here we only have one physiatrist who treats the whole population so I'm aware of why it would take that long for a follow up. But when dealing with antidepressants I also think that is to long. Anyways he did inform me to work along side a counselor wich whom i could probrally talk to in the even there were some Chrisis wich I hope not. Also said I can walk in during regular buisness hours to see him but I would just have to wait until hes available could be an all day wait. Well I can only hope for the best and wish that this would help me and we all just keep livin it up. Thank you for your response I'll go ahead and follow you just incase lol.. I might need some advice or what not👍
