Just had my yearly physical. Anxious about lab work. Can anyone relate?

Waiting on lab work.... A1C, cholesterol, CBC, thyroid, metabolic panel, liver function tests, etc.... why does my brain tell me that the results will be catastrophic. All prior years have been within normal limits though cholesterol runs high. Hopefully the 20 pd anxiety weight loss program will positively affect sugars and lipids. So tired of being hypervigilant about this crap. Mammogram next week so one more thing to focus on and worry about. Sometimes I wonder if ignorance is bliss!!❤️ I turned 49 today so I have the colonoscopy to think about next year. Geez!!!!

Happy birthday.🎂🎂

I don't worry too much about the blood work.

I do get very anxious about mammogram results.

Colonoscopy is a breeze, don't worry about it

I worry slightly about blood work and blood pressure. Both of which have been off a little for about 6 months. Mammo doesn't bother me except the squeezing. Haha

Dolphin, seriously about a colonoscopy? I'm 56 and never had one. Very frightening for me or possibly more embarrassment than fear. Not sure.. ugh!

I am in the UK but had a colonoscopy last year. The worst part is having to drink a lot of laxatives for a couple of days, and not being able to eat for the preceding 24 hours.

On the day I had to wear a hospital gown with a pair of paper knickers. These had a small hole in and you lie on your side while the surgeon feeds the camera through slowly. It is a bit uncomfortable but no pain as the sedation takes care of that.

On the subject of your bloodwork talk firmly to your brain and tell it not to be so stupid as it can't see into the future! x

Oh my. Just reading your explanation of the test freaks me out. I truly think it's more from embarrassment, and the area involved. I guess a little bit much into my personal space literally. But then the medical team has probably seen everything...

The only person who will see anything for a second is the surgeon who puts the camera in so don't worry about it! x

I've had one colonoscopy. None of the prep or procedure bothered me.

Sure it's a little embarrassing. But honestly we are exposed more during a gyn exam.

You will be medicated and it's over quick.

I'm sure you will do ok:)

Hmm. Maybe that screening will go on the to do list one year. Thank you both for the input.

I too worry terribly about test results- don’t understand why we do this to ourselves but I think it’s part of anxiety disorder. I don’t have any tips it causes me great stress just wanted you to know you’re not alone ! Wishing you the best ❤️

Thank you for the replies. Turns out losing 25 pds with anxiety lowered cholesterol. The ONE benefit to anxiety. All other results were ok too. Mammograms aren’t fun but necessary and I hope they put me out cold for the colonoscopy. They gave my husband propofol for his and he didn’t know what hit him😀😀 I’m sure I’ll find some way to worry about it though. Damn nerves!!!! As much as I hate that there are others out there like me, it helps to not feel so alone.

Oh I know I’m 50 but at 38 I turned 50 from my parts breaking I’m on me getting the boot then all this crap. Don’t worry about your blood unless you have reason to worry and colonoscopy had one this year again I had a lot of polyps so I go back again 2/3 years scared the s$&t outta me but it also mighta saves my life who knows. I’m here lol.

I can totally relate. Every time I go to the doctor, even for the yearly physical, my mind tells me that they’ll find something terribly wrong. Before every single visit, I get very anxious, panicking, nauseated, feeling of doom n gloom...I really want to cancel the last minute but at the same time I cannot live without knowing. It’s pure torture. Also waiting for that phone call for the follow up and explanation of the results...? The person who calls is not allowed to give you any info, good or bad. She calls on Friday afternoon to schedule the follow up next Wednesday, let’s say. How the hell will I live with the unknown till then? You know what I’m talking about, right?

I have to go for bloodwork on Monday and I’m so scared. It’s like a death sentence before I even get results. I’m sure they’ll find high cholesterol, anemia, diabetes, and everything else that google tells me may be wrong with me...Afraid to live and equally afraid to die...pure terror.

The clue was in the word catastrophic. Anxious and/or depressed people are prone to catastrophising. This just means thinking that the worst outcome in the situation will come to pass, regardless of what the objective evidence suggests is the likely outcome.
