Holidays are supposed to be magical. But sometimes they’re not.

Sometimes, they suck.

If you’re reading this on Thanksgiving, my guess is that you might be having a holiday that’s less than stellar. Your holiday may be leaning more towards, "I wish this day was just OVER already!" than towards, "Woo hoo! This is the best Thanksgiving EVER!"

If that’s what you’re thinking, here’s what you need to know.

You are NOT alone. I promise you that there are a LOT of people who aren’t doing the happy dance today. While that probably doesn’t make you feel any better, sometimes it helps to know that you’re not the only one who is going through a rough time.

This too shall pass. Nothing lasts forever. Not the good. Not the bad. If today is not going well, remember that next year may be different. Again, that may not change the way you feel rat the moment, but it’s important to remember that life will get better. It may not seem that way right now. But it will.

You can still grab a bit of happiness today. I know that seems impossible. And, I’ll be honest. If you’re having a lousy day, the chances of totally turning it around right now are not great. BUT if you’re willing to truly try, I’ll bet you can be happy for one minute today. And, while one minute isn’t a lot, one minute of happiness is better than no minutes of happiness. Are you up for it?

Here's the experiment:

Your goal for today is to create 60 seconds of happiness in your day. That’s not a lot. But it’s a start. And it’s totally achievable.

Happy Thanksgiving. I just accepted an invitation to a friends house today. There will be quite a few people there but a lot of them have similar backgrounds to me. So I'm kinda looking forward to it. Good people and good food. Hopefully I can make it thru without tearing up because I've already been crying this morning. Have a good day everyone.

Awwwww I’m soooo happy for you!! I was thinking about you today and I’m glad to know you have an invitation. Yeah understandable but I’m sure it will turn out to be a great day for you.

Thanks. I'm sure it will. I've been there before. I did cancel my reservation when I got up this morning. That I couldn't do. I'll let you know how it goes. Have a wonderful day and make some good memories for your kiddos!! 😊

Consider next year Thanksgiving, try something different, if you are low or depressed.

Look for ways to divert the negative and consider a more positive way to celebrate the day.

I live in the UK and Christmas is a real problem for my family, Wife and Dog {Pax} we have changed Christmas to something we enjoy and celebrate. Some positive changes may help

Keep a hold for today, Make plans for next year you will enjoy, why be miserable

Thanks Bob for your advice but shared this post for others who may feel this way. I wanted someone to read this and feel that they are not alone. When I read it I felt like this could be helpful to someone else.

Hello

Sorry I was trying to explain I used and now still have problems with a none functional depressive Season of Good will. I needed I suppose to take on this negativity in the long term meaning that I would consider changes of the forthcoming months for next year. We did that over twenty years ago and that did clear all the negativity we had had in the past.

This time of year can be like holding a loaded gun to your own head and I really do not know anyone who wishes for a dark increase in their Mental Health over the Festive Season.

Like many I will be on site, Christmas and New Year, we still go away on the lead up to Christmas and it does help to get away to the actual lead up to the Festive Season.

We actually do most Christmas Shopping early before this period so we get away to relax and prepare ourselves for this time of year.

You ideas are firm and hopefully, like Me will follow your idea. However why partake in something that will live with you up to Good Friday. Family Members will be happy on your return even with you preferring your own type of Festive Celebrations. Each Generation will eventually have their own type of Christmas as the years go by, however that does not mean to follow past generation celebrations.

Are you making any changes ?

If you wish to share, what kind of chAnges have you made?

It all depends some people go away over the Christmas Period. Many hotels have Christmas Breaks that include food and other activities.

Our Christmas consists of being together with my Wife and Dog, Pax, yes we watch Television although we start planning next years holidays on New Year s Day.

We are having a week away in a friends castle grounds, we have been doing that now during the week leading up to Christmas, then we may decide to go out on Boxing day for a meal and entertainment. We used to visit the various Countries at Christmas. Normally Cyprus or Something like Petra Palmyra etc, yes these countries have been war torn and because we have Pax we stay at home.

Going to Spain can also be different, they celebrate Christmas Eve, like Christmas day, they celebrate Christmas day for the traveler, also Boxing Day is celebrated to a lesser extent.

In the UK you can go on coach tours for Christmas and New Year to nice hotels etc yes it is more expensive although the preparations are made by the hotel. May people take their Christmas Cards and decorations to the hotel and deck out their room, although the hotels themselves decorate out the public rooms etc. Generally between Christmas and New Year, also leading up to Christmas these companies arrange days out. The choice is yours.

We celebrate New Year in the North, it is very important so we first foot, with the Bible, a piece of coal and given a mince pie after we read a passage at random from the bible itself..

Consider your own needs and expectations at this time of year, by doing this you are making your own traditions and start to fulfill your own expectations When we were young Christmas was held at home with your parents traditions and expectations, as we get older we do the same thing, in some instances Christmas may be held at one address while the next Christmas may be held at number two address say your home. It can help with the problem of repeat visits you change every year, the same applies to Boxing Day and New Years Day. That way you take on your own traditions as well as say your Parents.
