Spreading gratitude

Hi I’m Sarah. I have a story…

So crack open a cold one, pop some popcorn, lay back, and relax.

A girl lost her wallet at a popular bar in a busy city. She went to bed with her friend that night in certainty it was gone for good. To her astonishment she woke up to Facebook and Instagram messages from a lady who had found her wallet. She went to check her wallet to see if anything was missing. A rush of gratitude took her by pleasant surprise, as she visualized the wallet exactly as she remembered. For the remainder of the day the rush of gratitude continued to linger with her, and it was all she could talk about. Her friend looked at her and said, “This is where the phrase, ‘Count your blessings, hun’ becomes a mantra.” They chuckled regarding the cliche, then exchanged a look that acknowledged the importance of the “newfound” mantra.

Thanks for reading my preface for my first blog post. Can you guess the topic? Yep, you got it: GRATITUDE!

As I mentioned above, my name is Sarah. My full name is Sarah Mazur (my last name is Polish-for you cultural enthusiasts). I am from/currently living in Boston. I attend a school in the South End called The Massage School. As “captain obvious” would say, “She’s in school to be a massage therapist!” I also work at a popular coffee/ice cream parlour named J.P. Licks; I’m also a dog walker/sitter on the side.

It has been a goal of mine ever since I was 18 years old to start up a blog that uses my own personal stories and insight to project awareness of mental health, and use my best effort to reduce the stigma associated with it.

Anyways, as I spread a rush of gratitude your way; let’s get back to the topic!

I have begun to integrate gratitude as a ritual into my everyday life. I have had an upbringing of unfortunate events, but, those “unfortunates”, have shifted me to a more positive perspective (AKA neuroplasticity). There is an exercise shared by Gabrielle Beirnstein (a motivational speaker, author, and life coach) where you dedicate time each morning (or whenever you have time in the day) to write down your appreciation for something or someone. This exercise is great because it gets you in the routine of experiencing gratitude.

I have done this exercise sporadically over the course of the year. I have recently started to make it a daily routine. Today I’m expressing that gratitude towards you 🙂

I have already noticed a change in my outlook. I am becoming more grounded, and reducing time in my thought spirals. I am also expanding my perseverance towards my goals, as well as adding a more wholesome perspective to my life.

As I continue to do this exercise on a frequent basis, my goals are to:

1) Let go of judgement/negative affirmations.

2.) Continue to work on a healthier mindset.

3)Reflect the gratitude I have for others; which will start a gratitude domino effect.

Setting goals is very influential, and helps you to be organized, mindful, and more deliberate as your progress towards your future. Which is why I decided to share my personal goals toward the practice of gratitude.

I advise you to do the same, not necessarily with gratitude, but, set a goal for yourself and work towards it. That will reflect in its own form of gratitude. I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and hope it starts you on your own gratitude grind (GG)! Stay tuned for what’s next.

My best wishes with love,

Sarah M
