I think the key thing is to change your thinking about the anxious thought that just popped into your head, uninvited. It is designed to bait you, to draw you into its web so that you engage with it. It loves nothing better when the anxiety sufferer identifies with the thought, placing belief in the content and their thought process spirals with a myriad of what ifs?

Change those what ifs to so what. This is what led to my recovery. There is no way you can stop those anxious thoughts coming but by changing the way you think about them is key to recovery. Those thoughts are just balls of anxious energy being released and of no significance so please don’t give them the respect they command to survive. Starve them to death by allowing them to come and not doing anything about them other than to let them go.

In my experience, trying to think positive thoughts when I felt completely full of negativity made no difference. I learned that this was just another method to try and stop feeling all that anxious energy . Energy that had to be felt in order for it to be released. How can you recover from something when you are not prepared to feel it. If you break your leg, it’s going to hurt for a while. You cannot suppress that pain and discomfort. It’s part of the healing process. Same for anxiety except sufferers insist on trying all sorts of things to stop feeling the pain. You have to feel it to recover and let all that anxious energy flow, without any resistance.

Thoughts dont just pop in to your mind ! they come from what you watch, what you read, your education, your parents etc ! its your subconscious mind trying to make sense ! and neurological pathways in your brain. You can control the conscious when it comes up, by changing the thought. All is thought change your thoughts change your world ! its as easy or has hard to do as you think it is ! Ray
