Feeling lost in the world

I have been dealing with my latest bout of anxiety and depression for little over a year now and it is still very intense. I am currently in talk therapy and on medication for it and the process seems to be taking a long time. I was just wondering how long it took you before they found the right medication for you? What kinds of things have helped you deal with anxiety and/or depression?

I’m feeling like once or twice a week therapy sessions just aren’t enough right now

My medications, not only for Mental Health concerns, also Pain medications took two years.

The AD Medications took me about six months, the side effects in the early stages took about six weeks, my problem was mixing with Opiates.

I have had CBT and that can take time until you understand what may be expected of you. We seem that we have to understand why we feel the way we do, also how to become in control of our concerns and move on. CBT varies depending on the Operator and their techniques. Initially you may feel distress and sensitized when you discuss your worries and concerns, the clever part is when you start addressing what has been wrong to make you feel the way you do. In a way that is all down to the patient, understand yourself and getting better may be closer than you think. That happened in my case where I began to take control of my problems and making some changes to help me move on.

Try not to be frightened to make those changes, in my case they were quite far reaching although generally this may not be the case. Consider what you want in life and go for it. You will hopefully gain confidence and move on .

It is hard to fight mental illness, finding the right drugs can take time for the body to adjust, I hope you have a good therapist, I have someone who I find to be great, I told her this week, how when I came to her I was all broken down and in so much misery. She has helped me SO much, I am feeling like a human being again. I also talked to my Dr. and we changed my anti depressant, that seemed to help, so I am on the mend. Sad to say these things take time, You Will get Well it will all end, I know I have gone thru several in my life. Be kind to yourself, do not listen to anyone who puts you down. I find journaling can be of help loving yourself and believing yourself are good factors. I send you strength, keep on doing what you have to, to get well. Sending Love & Hugs...Sprinkle 1.....

Hi. I find that therapy works best when you and your therapist are on the same page and you have a goal in mind about what you would like to achieve and get out of therapy. Sometimes, when you just want to let everything out, therapy can turn into an endless discussion of your past and your problems. It might be beneficial to some folks, but for me, I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and stuck on a treadmill, rehashing the same issues over and over again. Often times, we might not even realize it, and therefore I believe a good therapist will recognize the situation and take the initiative to change the approach or method being used into something that is more progressive, if you know what I mean. We always want to be moving forward. We might have setbacks here or there, but our objective remains the same, which is to transcend our suffering.

Even though I am not a very big fan of it, medication could be a big help and may just provide that extra boost needed. I was on Cymbalta for 6 years. It helped my depression and anxiety, but it gave me a lot of heart palpitations. I finally told my psychiatrist this and he decided to put me on trintellex. So far, it has been working for me and I don't get any more of the palpitations. I am very grateful. It does take the edge off and provides that push you need to get things done and really think about what you want right now. Change has to come from within us first. When we let go of our past and come into the present, we are able to be more conscious and deal with life in that moment.
