Tight throat

I’ve been dealing with my throat feeling tight for weeks, but it comes and goes. It doesn’t help that I have lots of drainage right now from allergies. My therapist said that a tight throat is a symptom of anxiety, but it is annoying to deal with. It also makes it hard for me to fall asleep almost every night because I’m afraid my throat will close up while I’m sleeping. Anyone else have that same feeling?

Muscular tension in the throat is indeed a common symptom of anxiety. Sometimes people feel there is something stuck in their throat, this is called Globus Hystericus.

It is nothing to fear and cannot make your throat close up when sleeping because it is only a feeling.

Some throat tablets like Strepsils used for a sore throat contain an anaesthetic, you may find it brings relief to suck one of these occasionally.

This is the main anxiety symptom I have had on and off for many years. Even being on antidepressants didn't always help but knowing that it is caused by anxiety helped me deal with it because as Jeff1943 mentioned, it is nothing to fear. I hope you get some relief soon.
