Escitalopram/Lexapro - an actual situation where it’s helped!

Hello

I’ve been on 10 mgs for GAD around 4 months. I used to get really down when my husband was away and would feel low and bored.

Big change! He’s gone off to football and I’m having such a nice, chilled day! I’m not going out but I don’t feel like I have to. Comfortable in my own skin. No anxiety. Totally new to me! 😊

That's so great! I am considering trying such a medication. I'm not officially diagnosed with GAD yet, but lately feel consumed with worry most days. It's great to hear success stories like this.

Do you mind if I ask: have you alway struggled with GAD? My anxiety troubles started when a particular situation came up in my life. I'm trying to get out of the situation (a job), but am not sure if that will actually resolve the anxiety. I'm not sure if I should wait until I can change the situation, before trying medication.

It’s not a magic bullet exactly and the initial settling in period (first two weeks) were not at all great but for me, sleeping better and not worrying about every single thing, the SAD has gone etc etc So pretty good! 😊

Hi Catismycopilot Sorry for delayed reply.

I’ve probably suffered from GAD for years, always put it down to various life issues. But when no real life issues and was still feeling anxious with low moods, poor sleeping and waking up feeling down, I sought help. Like you, work problems (now resolved) were also a catalyst. If you have been prescribed meds, I would start ASAP - they won’t obviously take away the work issues but they may well help you deal with them more calmly. Keep me updated and good luck! 😊

s_l_f, I started seeing a new psychiatrist last month & he put me on Lexapro 10mg 1 a day at dinner & it will be 4 weeks this week since being on this medicine, while he is weaning me off the Zoloft because he doesn't think the Zoloft is working for me because I been on it since 2003. I'm still having anxiety & how long did it take before you saw an improvement on Lexapro & so you think it is helping you? I hate having this anxiety. I'm also on Clonazepam 0.5mg my family doctor prescribed in April 2015 from having panic attacks. I never knew these medicines are addicting & hard to come off of. My psychiatrist doesn't prescribe these to his patients anymore & wants to help me get off this medicine, once he gets my anxiety under control. I have other health problems & I get scared & that causes my anxiety to go crazy & I'm praying to God & doing everything to stay positive. My husband doesn't understand as he never had anxiety before. I feel trapped & overwhelmed! Let me know about the Lexapro? Thank you!❤️🙏❤️

Sun8. All I can say is don’t give up! Although everyone’s physiology is different, lexapro (escitalopram) is considered to be a very good medication for GAD & depression. I’ve been taking it 5 months at 10 mg and, after the first couple of weeks (when I felt spaced and generally couldn’t get up from the sofa - although I did manage to go to work and function) I started to find the new me! Each week I could see an improvement and now I can honestly say that I’ve never felt better. I take mine in the morning and the anxiety around taking the meds has gone as I am now trusting the outcome. I hope this helps. Just remember you won’t necessarily see the full results for a while yet. By 8/10 weeks you should be feeling very good so hang in there! 😊

s_l_f....thank you for getting back to me & letting me know! He is weaning me off the Zoloft & I was on 150mg 1 x a day & he weaned me down to 50mg once a day when he started me on the lexapro (escitalopram) same day. I'm still having anxiety & praying the Lexapro takes effect soon!

I am( was) taking Lexapro but I start feeling shaky and zone out! My husband notice the odd change and ask me to stop. A day later without the Lexapro, I felt better and felt under control. Thinking of take Prozac , it might not be as strong but it has been around a long time. I feel I can trust Prozac better with less wired feelings.

Nancy. It’s normal to feel very weird for first couple of weeks. You have to get through that. I don’t think the medics always prepare you for this. If you do start taking them again you’ll be better prepared! It is a very clean AD and the side effects do go away. It is a similar med to Prozac. After 1 day of taking lexapro it is far too soon to decide if it works. Most people here who take it would agree that if you stick with lexapro, after a few weeks, the effect is generally very good. 😊
