hi guys, I‘m new here and I‘ve never done this before so it‘s a little kind of weird for me...

Only a few months ago I’ve got the diagnosis depression. But thats not just a diagnostic thing for me, it‘s my life. I haven‘t known this everytime but now when I‘m looking back I can see it everywhere. In my family, with friends, at school, in my whole life.

Now that I know that I have a mental disorder, it‘s so plausible. And now when I know there are others who have the same problem, I feel a little bit better. I know I‘m ill but I also know I‘m not more "unnormal" than others.

But It‘s so hard to handle this all and everyday I ask me the question how.

So I would be thankful when you can tell me about how you handle...

Hi and welcome 🤗 everyone is great on here and you will find lots of support and helpful advice. No one will judge you and you definitely aren't on your own XXX it is a fight but your a fighter. U've already been fighting and surviving for a long time 👍 once you get a good understanding of your triggers, coping mechanisms that suit you and treatment (maybe meds, maybe therapy), you won't just be existing and surviving, you'll be living my friend ❤️❤️❤️

Hi and welcome Silvi! There are many positive and proactive things that we can do to manage depression. A big one is to “know oneself”. Take time to observe your thoughts, your patterns and your triggers. Try and look at yourself without judgement. A therapist can be very very helpful. Depression can be for many people a lifelong challenge so it’s very important to understand the disease and to know how it affects you. In general I think all of us benefit from healthy interactions with loved ones and friends, laughter, sunshine and fresh air, eating regularly, getting good rest and exercising (lots of benefit from this!).

I’m going to recommend a great book that explains depression in a completely down to earth and somewhat humorous way AND gives a huge “toolbox” of ways to deal with it. The book is called “The No Bullsh*t Guide to Depression”.

I hope that you will hang in there with us here. I’ve found this to be a great place to receive encouragement, understanding and advice. Every now and then you get an odd ball comment but hey that’s gonna happen anywhere in this world. ;).
