Nearly 450 million people worldwide are currently living with a mental illness, yet nearly two thirds of people with a known mental illness never seek treatment. ADAA is dedicated to helping those living with anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders and their loved ones find treatment, support, and resources. This May - for Mental Health Awareness Month - we encourage you to help us #breakthestigma associated with mental health disorders by sharing your story to inspire those facing similar challenges and supporting our work so we can continue our mission to provide free resources for those in need. Thank you!

I agree, but it feels like it's never going to end? I've been dealing with this off and on for about 36 years. I had to retire early from my job. Family and friends have pulled away from me, so I'm Alone most of the time. When I'm around people I pretend I'm fine. Feel like I'm being judged?

This is how I feel..... I put on the happy face cause my family doesn't want to deal with my issues. Whenever I try to talk to them about my anxiety or depression, they pull away.

Yep, that's what I do to keep the Peace. That's why I'm on Medication and go to counseling. Next month is going to be a busy month with family and friends. I'll double up on Medication to get me though.

Imagines with my happy childhood play in front of my eyes. When time passed and I grew up I was more and more unhappy, with physical manifestation of depression and anxiety. Today I'm lost in this life, feeling that I missed my purpose somewhere in the road of life.

My father was a successful doctor who "had it all" but very sadly committed suicide. I have had various diagnoses like panic attacks, GAD, depression, anhedonia, cptsd, perhaps a drop of schizotypal. I have tried a broad range of meds. It all resulted in a riches to rags story for me.
