Hello everyone. I just discovered this app and wanted to try it out. My name is Landy, and my mom has had major depression for a while now. I am looking for ways to help her. However, resources seem to be very limited since she only speaks & reads Spanish. I love my mom so much. She’s been the most important person in my life, and I’ve lived each day wanting to make her proud. Recently, I have lost her trust by not being able to believe certain things happen in our home. I have ultimately made her push me away, and I can never make her feel better. I have noticed she’s lost so much confidence in herself as a mother, woman, and human. I know she is the best in all three, but it has been very hard for her to see it now. She’s struggled with drug abuse due to wanting to relieve her chronic pain all through out her body. I feel like the things she feels are happening are the results from this. Sometimes I feel useless and hopeless because I can’t fix any of it. We have had very bad days, and although I know this isn’t her fault and that she’s going through a lot worse, I feel miserable. Does anyone have any advice?

You might want to check out the DBSA (Depression Bipolar support Alliance) They have free online meetings, and they have meeting for family living with someone with depression or bipolar issues. It would be good to talk to people who will understand your issues, and be able to sympathies with you, and offer support and help. I use the DBSA because I have treatment resistant depression, but I have known something was wrong since I was very young. I think being aware that something was wrong at a young was good, because it made me more aware of my actions towards others. I will say one thing, you may need more support than a group, you may need a therapist so you understand what is happening, and how to protect yourself so you maintain healthy well being. I wish you luck!

Has she seen a doctor to make sure the pain isn't something bigger? Take her someplace fun, like goat yoga and do it together.

Hi Landy,

Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry about your Mom’s struggles. I want to encourage you to seek support or seek professional counselling so you will know the best way to help your Mom. It will be better if you can join a life group who can be there for you especially in times of testing. Try to connect to a local church, they have different groups available for all ages. I hope you get the support you need. Keep us posted.

I pray that things will get better for your Mom and you will stay strong for her. Take care, God bless.

Look for clinics that offer translators. Medical clinics, mental health clinics, substance use recovery clinics. Perhaps if you mention the city you're in, I or someone else here can do some research in my or their free time! Best of luck!
