Group therapy

My therapist wants to move me to group therapy, but I'm not really sure about it. I have done individual therapy for a year with my first therapist and have been seeing my current therapist for a few months. It took me a few weeks before I was comfortable with either of them. I'm worried I wont be nearly as open in a group; if I talk at all. Anyways, have any of you done group therapy? How was it? Did it help? Is it worth the effort?

Hi Inre! I have no advice to give but am really curious to see a few responses from people that have done group therapy. I've been thinking about it but like you I'm not sure how open I will be. This forum is great because it's online. I can push aside my fears and shyness. But in person, yikes! Please, anyone on this site, can you tell us about your experience in group therapy? Thanks and tons of <3

I’ve been involved with group therapy 4 different times. It depends who is in your group. The first 3 groups were really good. We all bonded and supported one another. The 4th one I did not like because there were 2 bullies in there that seemed to have it in for me no matter what I said. Basically the other 3 groups were good for me. We really supported and encouraged one another. You could try it and see how it goes. If you don’t like it, talk to your counselor. I’m sure your counselor would understand. Give it a little time and then decide.
