Guess smoking medical marijuana last night was a bad idea. I couldn’t sleep because my mind racing and me being anxious and disconnected, numb, sad and paranoia I messed up my sleep because I was getting a little sleep for the last couple of days and today is 2weeks taking antidepressant Zoloft I only been taking 50mg because I complained to my psychiatrist about it being to high I cry more easy been outside 3X and I panic each time my motivation and energy is still very low and I been forcing myself to get up even when I feel off balance because I know is a small process to feeling better still keeping my fingers crossed on this medication feeling disappointed in myself

The one single most important thing anyone with mental issues must do is FIND POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT. For example I feel rather great when I am ina bar with friends, or in gym or doing really interesting work.

I am not an opponent of substance use, but you will not enjoy even the best substance if you are not in the right environment.

I can compare this to eating Ecstasy at home and just sadly looking at a wall and eating same in a festival. You get the idea.

Medical marijuana is a giant scam. The only thing people need to medicate is finding a place they enjoy - look around you, where do you feel positive and energized? Dance floor, zoo, library, theater stage, cinema, mma group, bar?

...

I cannot imagine seriously smoking pot when I got depression. I have smoked it in the past, but it made me think waaay too deep about quite meaningless things. With depression I'd jsut think about depressive stuff more :)

U right thank you

I think it's not good idea to mix high potent THC marijuana and antidepressants medication together, which I believe that's why you got all that negative things. And also to let you know that if you try High CBD cannabis instead of high THC cannabis it is better. CBD has a lot of good therapeutic effects for major diseases, illness etc without getting high(if you don't like to get high). If you live in a legal state I would give it a try and see how it goes.

I live in a legal state and I have the medical marijuana card so next time if I try it I will make sure I ask for a high CBD and am with u I think that’s why I had the side effects too

in reply to tamka38

Yes give it a try :) CBD won't give you any high if it's only CBD. You can find it with a bit of THC and I believe that in your state will have all sorts of strains. Wish I can get access card in my country but it's very hard :(

I have been self-medicating with marijuana for over 30 years. I realized a few years ago that it was actually increasing my anxiety, but I continued out of habit.

I am currently weed free for over 3 months and I feel much better. I am no longer hiding behind a smokescreen and not dealing with my problems.

I am taking control and being proactive in facing life.

Smoking weed is a coping mechanism, just as alcohol and other drugs are, but the coping is from the outside and temporary.

So don't use it to make habit of it. Use as enjoyment not as treatment.

Similar to Dominic1117 above, I am a long-term user of cannabis and as such have my own observations based on my own extensive experience (from myself and my peer group) and also what current research is suggesting.

So IMHO some personality types just do not respond very well to THC. It tends to make them overthink things, paranoid and eventually after prolonged use it can coincide with psychotic episodes and even schizophrenia. Note I said coincide because the jury is still out on cause and effect on that one. But in my experience there are definitely some people for whom MJ is not a good thing, and interestingly these often seem to be the people that wake up in the morning and fire a joint up for breakfast.

Then there are people like myself, and possibly Dominic above. The first time I smoked cannabis it just felt right. Totally relaxing, giggles, munchies etc. All the nice things, none of the bad. Didn’t make me paranoid, didn’t make me anything other than relaxed. Problem with that is it’s too easy to do it ALL. OF. THE. DAMN. TIME. And I did. For years. I even tried stopping )or more likely ran out) occasionally and really craved it, if I’m being honest.

Then about 3 years ago I decided I didn’t want to smoke joints anymore, so I just stopped. Had a few sleepless nights, but zero cravings or any other withdrawal signs.

Didn’t touch it for months, didn’t bother me at all. After a while I developed (long story unrelated to the weed) depression and anxiety. I’ve had my fair share of addictive medications to taper off and have had a tough time of it. I developed anxiety and insomnia.

A friend of mine had access to top quality full plant oil. I tried it sublingually.

I am now convinced that there is a valid medical use for it. It helps me sleep, it helps me with anxiety and it’s a lot less addictive than benzos or any other pharmaceutical solution to my problems.

I don’t get a high off what I use, just a better night’s sleep.

I suspect that the method of ingestion, the strain (indica / sativa) and the relative levels of CBD etc vs THC all make a huge difference.

Taking it how I do now feels a lot different to how I used to be (wake and bake).

YMMV

No worries, have used an eliquid CBD (not sure if we can give brands out?) called cannavape. Not sure it does anything if I’m honest and cost a lot. From what I’ve read you need quite a high dose of CBD to get much effect other than placebo , and it starts getting expensive at higher doses. Drops are better than vape, from what other say.

Prefer to get the full-plant oil when available, but as I live in UK it’s not easily available.

Which leaves DIY

As others have said low THC, high CBD. Maybe edibles / tinctures or something would be better than smoking? They should be able to advise you which strains are best suited for your needs and which method of taking it. Some strains are good for anxiety others not so. I’m a big fan of extracting it somehow and cooking with / under the tongue whatever. As long as you don’t overdo it, in which case there’s not a lot you can do if you already ate the entire brownie! 😂

What I would give to have a dispensary and a card, we’re just at the start of the process (hopefully). I’m hoping that in my lifetime I will be able to walk into a medical dispensary and legally obtain something that genuinely helps me with far fewer side-effects than tablets. One day... 🙂

This is a good site to search for different strains that are suitable for different things:

leafly.com

I’d be interested to know what the dispensary recommend. 🙏🏻
