I really want to try Trazodone but I think 200mg is to much for me. Am so afraid of side effects but I really need sleep

Try less. I’ve tried 50mg and it was enough to get me to sleep. Just start lower.

I was thinking the same as the other 2. Who says you have to take such a high dose? Try cutting a pill in half and if that works then fine. x

I was just prescribed trazodone for sleep by my psychiatrist. Although it’s a fairly low dose 50 MG he instructed me to take half to start for one week and adjust up 2 tablets as needed. He is aware of my history with side effects to medications and wanted me to start low and adjust the dosage as needed. I have not tried it as yet so I don’t know how it will for me. As everyone has said you should cut the pill in half and start low.

Your doctor should have moved on and tried a different antidepressant (SSRI) that acts a little differently than Prozac, not leave you with nothing simply because your 1st drug tried didn't work out. Often a 1st attempt won't be right, but the 2nd or even 3rd is a good fit. To prescribe Prozac or nothing makes no sense. One drug can't suit all patients. Try to get her/him to try another drug or find another doctor who will.

I've had GAD, MDD, PTSD, OCD, and now BPII. So many people have this grouping or similar I think we'll learn that they are linked somehow and not all that separate as we make them. The worst days and months were deep dark depression and raging anxiety that had me on edge for months at a time. Every second was torture. Then the BP arrived and there was strong new emotions and leanings I'd never had to deal with before. It was very confusing and misleading as far as the physical symptoms. The PTSD is slowly fading but I still startle at gentle sounds. I no longer need a daily benzo for the GAD. I do need things to help me sleep, which isn't nightly by any means. I've quit trying to fight the lack of need for sleep and just work at getting things done. Most of the last 30 years has been living with my pain and suffering under control. I've felt very normal once my meds were regulated and effective until the BPII arrived. What a blow that was! But I'm done reeling and now have a handle on it. Not an easy thing to live with. I thank God I don't have to deal with BPI, what a difficult thing that must be!!!

Please PM me or other people if you want them to tell their stories. You also can click on a photo and find all of the person's posts and read them to answer your questions.

I'm not sure of the dosage, but Trazadone is a good medication. That's what they give you at the mental hospital when they abruptly take away your benzo without warning. It's what they did to me, while they kept me on my anti-depressants, which was Lexapro, I believe.

I took 25mg for the first time last night and it helped me sleep very soundly. I feel groggy today but it helped with sleep. 200mg seems like a lot but I don't know your situation. Maybe cut the pill down and start with a lower dose to first see how you feel. Works pretty quickly and might make you a little dizzy but you'll sleep.
